MacKillop Achievers Award – Celebrating Excellence in Our Alumni

Many of you will be familiar with the MacKillop Achievers display located along the corridor from the Administration Centre to the Learning Resource Centre. This initiative was first launched in 2016 as part of the College’s 30-year celebrations, recognising alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen fields and who embody the values of our College.

The inaugural inductees were:

  • Larissa Argento (2000–2005) – Economic Statistician
  • Jarryd Blair (2003–2008) – AFL Footballer
  • Matt Brosnan (1986–1991) – Civil Engineer
  • Nella Combe (1996–2001) – Oncology Nurse
  • Rob (Robert) Linford (1995–2000) – Finance Professional
  • Angus McLaren (2001–2005) – Actor
  • Janelle McLean (1999–2004) – Intensive Care Nurse
  • Kaila McKnight (1999–2004) – Olympian
  • James Newcome (2000–2005) – Aerospace Engineer
  • Sarah Norton (1997–2002) – Medical Specialist
  • Eleanor Patterson (2009–2014) – Olympian
  • Megan Ryan (2006–2011) – Humanitarian

While a nomination process has remained available on the College website, no additional alumni have been formally recognised since the program’s launch.

As part of our 40-year celebrations, we are pleased to relaunch the MacKillop Achievers program. This provides an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our alumni across a range of areas, including academic excellence, professional achievement, service, leadership, business, and elite sport.

The award recognises graduates who have demonstrated high achievement—through excellence or sustained contribution over time—in one or more of the following areas:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Service or Humanitarian Work
  • Community Involvement and/or Leadership
  • Career or Professional Achievement or Leadership
  • Business Achievement and/or Leadership
  • Sporting Endeavour or Success at an Elite Level

In addition to their achievements, recipients must be people of exemplary character who embody the College's values and ethos. This includes a commitment to integrity, respect, service, leadership, and the spirit of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop: “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

Nominations will be considered against key criteria, including:

  • demonstrated excellence in the relevant field
  • positive impact on others, the community, or their profession
  • alignment with the College’s values
  • sustained commitment and achievement over time
  • and a minimum of five years since graduation to reflect the depth of accomplishment

While the award categories remain unchanged, the nomination process has been refined to provide clearer guidance on the selection criteria and the evidence required.

Further information, including nomination materials, will be made available in the coming weeks. All members of the College community are warmly invited to consider and submit nominations for alumni who exemplify the very best of our College.

This is a valuable opportunity to honour the achievements of our past students and to provide inspiring role models for those currently walking the same corridors.
