Write Around the Murray

Mrs Meller’s Writing Enrichment class were spoilt when they attended a Dub Leffler workshop. Dub is a prominent children’s book illustrator and author, collaborating with Sally Morgan, Banksy, Coral Vass and many others. He is known for his soft realistic portraits and emotive landscapes.

Following this, the students were totally zapped while Nat Amoore spoke about her inspiration for writing her new series ‘Showerland’ and the writing process.

Nat also spoke about some of her other books, We Run Tomorrow and Secrets of a Schoolyard Millionaire.  We are certain Nat’s books will be on high rotation as many requests have already come through!

Congratulations to the following students who were recognised for their short story or poem in the competition:

  • Charlotte Nott – Judge’s Commendation - Short Story - Year 5 & 6
  • Aurora Pike – Winner – Poetry - Year 5 & 6
  • Flynn Cook –Judge’s Commendation – Poetry - Year 5 & 6
  • Sophie Robins – Highly Commended Short Story & Judge’s Commendation – Poetry - Year 7 & 8

Author Visit

Year 4 students were lucky to have Dianne visit them last week all the way from Western Australia!

Dianne writes across genres, from picture books to fantasy and historical fiction. She is the award-winning author of 27 books. The students enjoyed hearing that some of her books feature many local areas known to them.

Our very own Eleanor spoke about her journey as an author so far and read her books to Year 1 & 2 students in the Library this week. They were excited to hear her third book will be not too far away.

It was special to observe the way the students made the connection between a teacher from our own College, being the same famous person who appears on the Write Around the Murray flags in our region. It is invaluable having budding authors amongst our staff and in our College community.
