Leader of Year 7 Wellbeing
Ms Jennifer Allan
Welcome to the halfway mark of Term 1! It is hard to believe how quickly the weeks have flown by since we first welcomed our Year 7 cohort. Transitioning to high school is a significant milestone, and I am incredibly proud of how well the students have settled into the rhythms of life at St Aloysius College.
A major focus over these first few weeks has been fostering connection and belonging. During their homeroom sessions, the students have spent valuable time getting to know each other, discovering shared interests, and developing strong relationships. The camaraderie building within these groups is fantastic to see and will form the foundation of their support network throughout their time at the College.
On the academic front, Year 7 has hit the ground running. Navigating the expectations of high school coursework can be a steep learning curve, but the students have shown great resilience and focus. They have already tackled their first two assessment tasks in English and Mathematics. I commend them on the diligence they demonstrated in preparing for these tasks and encourage them to use the feedback they receive to set goals for the remainder of the term.
There has been plenty of engaging, hands-on learning happening across the curriculum. A special shoutout goes to Mr. Walker’s History class, who have been working incredibly hard on their historical inquiry skills. The students had a fantastic time designing and constructing 'archaeological dig' models, creatively transforming everyday pizza boxes into fascinating, detailed excavation sites. It was a brilliant way to bring history to life!
As we move into the second half of the term, excitement is already building for our upcoming Founder’s Day celebrations. Year 7 is currently busy getting ready for their Founder’s Day Stall. This is always a highlight of the term and a wonderful opportunity for the cohort to work collaboratively, show their College spirit, and contribute to the broader school community. We look forward to sharing more details about this with you soon.
Thank you to all the parents and carers for your ongoing support at home during this transition period. We are off to a wonderful start!
