Faith, Service, Community

Lenten Focus

During our recent assembly this week, students reflected on how Lent calls us to look honestly at our lives and consider how we are invited to act with compassion. Students listened to the Gospel story of the rich man (Mark 10:17–22), where Jesus challenges his followers to let go of whatever holds them back from loving others generously. The Starfish Story, used often by Lasallian schools, reminds  us that even small acts of kindness can make a real difference. Together, these messages encouraged our students to see Lent not just as a time of giving something up, but as a season of giving more of ourselves and  noticing those in need, choosing courage over comfort, and taking simple, meaningful steps to bring hope to others.

As a Lasallian community, our commitment to faith, service, and community is expressed in the many ways we support those in need during Lent. The College continues its longstanding partnership with Caritas Australia, inviting students to engage in meaningful acts of generosity that reflect our shared mission to build a more just and compassionate world.

This commitment is also evident in our recognition of International Women’s Day, where our community,  particularly our male students, have been encouraged to donate sanitary products to support the Share the Dignity initiative. This project addresses the reality of period poverty, which affects one in five Australian women and can limit girls’ access to education. In addition, our Year 8 students will be baking cupcakes and selling them on Tuesday, 10 March to celebrate International Women’s Day to raise further funds for Caritas.

The Year 7 students will lead a similar initiative on St Patrick’s Day, 17 March, baking and selling cupcakes at recess. These collective efforts highlight the heart of our Lasallian values: an inclusive community, respect for all, and a deep concern for those who are vulnerable. Through these actions, our students are not only learning about justice,  they are actively living it.

On Wednesday, 25 March, our College will celebrate Harmony Day with a mufti day, inviting all students to wear a touch of orange. Harmony Day is an important national event that recognises and celebrates the rich cultural diversity within our community. The colour orange symbolises social inclusion, respect, and a shared commitment to fostering a sense of belonging for all people. Harmony Day reminds us that our differences strengthen us, and that as a Lasallian College, we are called to uphold the dignity of all people.

Liturgies in the Chapel Term 2

Beginning next term, the College will introduce weekly liturgies in our Chapel for Year 7 and Year 8 pastoral classes. Each week, a selected pastoral group will work with their Pastoral Team to design and participate in a liturgy held on Thursday mornings at 8:15am. It is an expectation that all students from the designated pastoral class attend. These liturgies provide a meaningful opportunity for students to gather in prayer, strengthen positive relationships, and deepen their sense of belonging within the College community. As a Lasallian school, we are called to recognise the presence of God in all things, and these liturgies offer a simple yet significant way for students to actively participate in their faith and contribute to the spiritual life of our College.

Founder’s Day - 1 May

St Aloysius is preparing to celebrate Founder’s Day, a special event where we come together to raise funds in support of our sister Lasallian school in Pakistan. We are seeking the generosity of parents and carers who may be able to donate prizes for student awards and games, as well as food, drinks, or items for stalls to fundraise. All contributions, big or small, will help make the day a success while supporting a meaningful cause for our wider Lasallian community.
