Mr Jason Lappin, Head of Sport
Hello and welcome back to Term 3! Once again, we have plenty of sport on offer for students of all year levels and abilities.
Week 1 saw the commencement of Rowing training with a large group of students putting their name down to get involved.
ACC Sport:
We have two senior basketball teams participating in the strong ACC competition.
BAS Sport:
This term we have numerous teams participating in the local BAS competitions. Once again, basketball has been extremely popular with another record number of teams. We also have teams competing in the following sports:
Students need to listen to the morning messages and regularly check Microsoft teams to stay up to date with team information and coach communications.
Thank you to ALL of our fantastic staff that that are assisting with coaching/managing teams this term.
St Pat's will host the BAS Chess and ACC Chess competitions on 13 August and 28 August, respectively. These competitions will see up to 150 boys competing in our Performing Arts Centre. Special thanks to Shandelle Gerdtz and Andrew Jirik for their organisation of the events, the Maintenance Team for their expert set up and Tanya Drake and Nyarth Wang for catering for staff on both days.
Within the BAS competition, we compete in three events which include the Road Relays, Cross Country and Lap of the Lake.
We will also compete in the ACC Cross Country event in Week 9. This will be a great challenge for our boys against the might of the Melbourne schools. The boys need to keep an eye on the Daily Messages for information about upcoming events.

Vic Park, Wednesday, 5 August
The following students will be participating in the annual BAS Cross Country that will be held on the magnificent Nationals course at Vic Park in Ballarat on Wednesday, 5 August. If you are injured or cannot participate for whatever reason, please let myself or Mrs Rossato know.

Football never stops at SPC! The Year 7 House Football Competition is running every Friday starting last week. Thanks to our Football Coordinator Mr Howard Clark and VM Coordinator Mr Brendan Tudball, who organised umpires and coaches.
The best form of communication we have with parent/guardians is via the Parent Access Module (PAM). Students require permission to participate in all sport. Parent/guardians will receive the information through a PAM activity permission. Please ensure that you read the information prior to giving permission and that you also talk to students about the information.
The daily messages are one of the best ways we can distribute information to students about sports that are on offer and where sign up meetings will be held. Students should check the daily messages regularly.
Once students have signed up for a sport, we will be adding them into a MS Teams group where they can communicate directly with their coach. Students must communicate with their coach if they are unavailable for a match so we can find a replacement to ensure we have a full team for each match. If students are unsure of how to sign up for a sport or want more information, they can visit sports staff in the gymnasium.
All SPC sport uniforms can be purchased at Dobsons, either at their Mair St store or online at dobsons.com.au. Students need to ensure that they are in the correct uniform to participate. The general sport uniform is the navy blue polo top, navy shorts and white socks. Certain sports will require very specific clothing e.g. Soccer will need to purchase SPC soccer shorts and socks and Basketball will need to purchase SPC Basketball shorts. Students should check with their coach as to what is required.
I wish all students and coaches every success in Term 3. Always play the game in the right spirit, wear the correct uniform and respect the facilities, home and away. St Patrick’s College is steeped in sporting tradition and you are encouraged to add more chapters to our past endeavours.
Please do not hesitate to contact me (jlappin@stpats.vic.edu.au) or our Sports Administrator Mr Simon Dwyer (sdwyer@stpats.vic.edu.au) with any questions.
