Our Boarding Captain Lachlan Lloyd is proud to launch Break the Cycle 2026, the third annual student-led initiative coordinated by St Patrick's College.
Break the Cycle is a 24-hour spin cycle relay that’s about more than raising funds. It’s a show of unity from our St Patrick’s College community, that we stand together to promote respectful relationships and support those impacted by gender-based violence.
The event began in 2024 under the leadership of Boarding Captain Ollie Hannaford, following the tragic deaths of three Ballarat women at the hands of male violence. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, more than $5,000 was raised in the event's first year. In 2025, under Boarding Captain Hamish McNamara, the introduction of an online auction, helped raise more than $7,000.
This year, we hope to build on that success as we support two local organisations doing vital work in our community: Raven Collective and WRISC Family Violence Support Inc. Both organisations provide essential support to women and families as they rebuild their lives after experiencing gender-based violence.
This year's event will begin with an opening ceremony at 1:45pm on Friday, 28 August, before riders take to the bikes at 2pm. The relay will continue around the clock for 24 hours, concluding at 2pm on Saturday, 29 August.

Congratulations to our talented Food Studies and Hospitality students who proudly represented the College at the state finals of the Australian Culinary Federation's Secondary School Culinary Challenge, held at Mount Waverley College on Friday, 26 June.
Competing against some of Victoria's most skilled secondary school culinary teams, our students showcased exceptional technical skills, creativity and teamwork in what could only be described as MasterChef-worthy competition. Teams of two were challenged to prepare either a main course or dessert before presenting their finished dishes to a panel of professional chef judges.
In the main course, Jonty Lee and Will Steenhuis demonstrated outstanding culinary ability, producing a beautifully executed dish that earned them a silver standard. Their attention to detail, organisation and professionalism were evident throughout the competition.
In the dessert category, Aidan Ellul and Nathan Sandles impressed the judges with their creativity, precision and refined presentation, achieving a gold standard for their exceptional dessert.
To reach the state finals is an outstanding achievement, and both teams represented the college with pride, determination and professionalism. Their success reflects the countless hours of preparation, practice and commitment they have dedicated to developing their culinary skills. Well done to all involved.
