At St Patrick’s College, we are committed to supporting each student to discover his strengths, develop his interests and make informed choices about his future.

Subject selection is an important part of this journey. It provides students with an opportunity to reflect on what they enjoy, where their capabilities lie and the pathways they may wish to pursue. While these decisions are significant, they are not made in isolation. Our role is to walk alongside each student, providing the information, guidance and encouragement he needs to make choices that are both aspirational and aligned with his individual strengths and interests.

Learning extends well beyond individual subjects or classrooms. It is about growth, curiosity, self-understanding and developing the confidence to take increasing responsibility for one’s own direction. Through our subject selection process, we seek to ensure that every student feels supported and empowered to choose a pathway that reflects his talents, preferences and hopes for the future.

This process is also a partnership between students, families and the College. By working together, we can help each student navigate the opportunities before him and take the next step in his learning with confidence and purpose.

Yesterday, we held our Subject Information Evening for 2027 Years 9-12 families, with well over 400 people in attendance at the event. It was wonderful to see such an incredible turn out, and it is exciting for us as educators, to see such a significant show of support and investment in the future pathways of our students.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of our community, who gave of their valuable time to attend the Subject Information Evening. We trust that through this event, you were able to find all the information and advice that you need, to be able to make an informed decision about your son’s future pathway.

In addition, next week we are holding Subject Selection interviews, for students transitioning into Year 11 in 2027, and for those seeking acceleration or external VET, with our Academic Advisors. We also have our Careers and Pathways Hub, located in the Waterford Wing, where students can stop in any time for advice and information about all aspects of their future pathways.

And of course, there are always many more opportunities for students and their families to speak with our teachers, who know and understand the subject pathways, as well as understanding the individual strengths of their students. If you are unsure of who to speak to during the subject selection process, please do not hesitate to contact us at the College, and we can put you in contact with the most appropriate person.

Today, students currently in Years 8-11 will receive an email which will have a link to the subject selection portal, along with their password and login details for this. The due dates for submission of subject preferences are as follows:

Year 12 2027 – Friday, 7 August (end of Week 4)

Years 9-11 2027 – Friday, 14 August (end of Week 5)
