Performing Arts

What an incredibly busy start to Term 2! It really has been a hive of activity in the Broadley Performing Arts Centre!
At the very end of Term 1, Year 6 are to be congratulated on their part in the Junior School Easter Chapel. There was a very heartfelt drama presentation, which also included worship songs and presentations from both the Seraphim Choir and the Junior Vocal Ensemble. It was a wonderful time of reflection and celebration.
ANZAC Dawn Service
To conclude the first week of Term 2, there was a moving ANZAC Service. Our musicians presented some beautiful music to compliment the powerful words that were spoken as the sun was rising. The Senior Vocal Ensemble and the Barbershop Boys shared poignant songs, with Jeremiah L (12.10), Bryce M (10.1) and Connor P (9.09) contributing music on their instruments.
Open Day
Open Day provided the perfect opportunity for many of our choirs and ensembles to share their music with both the college and wider community. Two concerts featured our larger choirs and ensembles in both the Junior and Secondary Schools. There were many performances around the school, with the outdoor performances really contributing to the festive atmosphere. It was encouraging to see so many Year 3 students performing for the first time in Andante and Cherub Choir. Outdoor performances from the Senior Stage Band, Szforzando and the Barbershop Boys proved especially popular, with both Camerata and the Senior Vocal Ensemble gathering quite a crowd inside the Senior School Building. It was a most exciting day of performances and our student musicians represented our college with pride. These ensembles are now preparing conscientiously for our Senior and Junior Ensemble evenings towards the end of term.
Music Camp
Our Secondary School choirs and ensembles made the most of the rehearsal time on offer at our annual Music Camp. It was a wonderful time of sharing across a wide variety of year levels, in both fun activities and ensemble rehearsals. Every year one of the highlights is the chant competition, hosted by our Music Alumni, with judging from members of our staff that is honest and humorous. Every choir and ensemble received focused instruction and it was rewarding to witness the encouragement that the student musicians were giving each other.
The cast of Newsies was very excited to be rehearsing with the set. This production will be worth seeing and you need to stay tuned for the release of tickets! The Year 6 students have completed their auditions and the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. will be announced very soon.
Alumni & Staff Orchestra and Choir
I would also encourage you to purchase your tickets to an Evening with the Stars, presented by the Oxley Christian College Alumni & Staff Orchestra and Choir on Thursday 28 May. This will be the debut of the Choir and I am sure that every musician would be excited to see you there.
