The General Achievement Test (GAT)
The General Achievement Test (GAT) measures a student’s general knowledge in mathematics, science, technology, humanities, the arts and social sciences, and it cannot be studied for. The GAT will run on Tuesday 16 June in two parts, Section A and Section B. Any student enrolled in a Year 12 subject will need to complete the GAT, including Year 11 students who are fast-tracking a Year 12 subject.
Students must arrive at school on time, so they are relaxed and in the frame of mind to do their best. The GAT is used in a variety of ways. It will be used for any student that may be absent for their exam due to an emergency in order to get a Derived Examination Score (DES). The GAT is also used to identify quality control issues with examination marking, and students’ exams will be remarked if the mark is significantly lower than the GAT predicts. The GAT also plays a role in moderating SAC marks achieved during the year.
VCE and Careers Expo
On Thursday 30 April, the Years 11 and 12 students went on an excursion to the city to see the VCE and Careers Expo, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Students had the opportunity to talk to a wide range of tertiary institutions and other pathway providers, asking questions that related specifically to their potential career paths. These conversations helped to narrow down the university open days they wish to attend later in the year. They also were able to attend a range of lectures related to VCE study habits, career options and variety of VCE subjects. Teachers were on hand to assist and support students with deciding which stalls to go to and what sorts of questions to ask. Overall, it was an amazing day, and students took a lot out of this experience!
