Oxley Wins at EISM Athletics

Our Oxley athletes showed great spirit in winning this year’s EISM Division 3 Athletics Carnival, held on Friday 15 May at Lakeside Stadium. Oxley Christian College surprised the competition by improving from fourth place last year to be crowned champions of the 2026 competition.

We are grateful for the leadership shown by our Athletics Captains, Jess L (12.10) and Mitch J (12.8).

In preparation, students attended extra early-morning relay training sessions before school, which had a significant impact on the final result. Most of our relay teams finished in the top three. Some students also improved their fitness and strength by attending the Running Club on Thursday afternoons after school.

It was a fantastic team effort, and we are now looking forward to our next EISM Carnival — the Cross Country event — which will take place on Wednesday 9 September in Term 3. Our House Cross Country event will take place on Tuesday 26 May on the school grounds.

Congratulations to all students who represented the College, especially those who won their events. Below is a list of students who finished in first place.

Taking the race on aggressively from the start, Ryder set a strong early pace in a highly competitive field. With two laps remaining, the lead briefly changed hands, but Ryder responded decisively. On the final lap, he surged back to the front and powered away from the field to secure a convincing win.

Ryder crossed the line in an impressive time of 6:19.36, a massive 17 seconds off his personal best and a new Yarra Club record, capping off an outstanding performance.

His parents and coach were thrilled with both the result and the determination he showed throughout the race.

Ryder’s victory also earned him selection to represent Victoria at the Australian Athletics Championships, held in Brisbane. Competing against the nation’s best young athletes, Ryder finished an impressive fifth overall in Australia—a fantastic achievement and a great reward for his efforts.

Strong Performances Across Interschool Sport

As the current EISM season comes to a close, all Secondary School students at Oxley are preparing to begin a new chapter of interschool sport with the commencement of Season 2 later this term.

Season 2 will run across two terms for Secondary School students and will mark the final season of EISM team sport for many of our Year 12 students. Grand Finals are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 19 August for seniors. This revised EISM structure provides students with the opportunity to continue participating in sport while also allowing greater focus on academic studies toward the end of Term 2 and throughout their VCE studies.

Season 1 brought many outstanding achievements for Oxley teams. The Secondary School Girls Basketball C team enjoyed a highly successful campaign, finishing the season as premiers after an excellent display of teamwork and determination.

Our Secondary School Boys Soccer team also had an impressive season, narrowly missing out on the championship after a hard-fought Grand Final against Alphington Grammar School. The Girls Table Tennis team similarly performed strongly throughout the competition, finishing as runners-up in their Grand Final.

At the Year 8 and 9 level, both the Boys and Girls Basketball A teams earned places in the Grand Finals, which were hosted at Oxley. Both teams produced excellent performances and represented the College with pride, ultimately finishing the season as runners-up. Strong results were also achieved by our Boys Soccer team, along with both the Boys and Girls Indoor Soccer teams, who each progressed through to Grand Finals.

Students in our Senior and Year 8/9 teams were recognised for outstanding performance during the season with a medal presentation in the Stadium to acknowledge the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Team Player (BTP) in every team. The list of students who received medals are shown below.

Oxley Institute of Sport Basketball Program Begins for 2026

Oxley Christian College officially launched the 2026 Oxley Institute of Sport – Basketball Program on Wednesday 13 May, providing students with an exciting opportunity to further develop their basketball skills and fitness.

The program is open to students from Years 7 to 11 and runs throughout Terms 2 and 3. Training sessions are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7.15am to 8.15am, giving students the opportunity to participate in high-level coaching before the school day begins.

A total of 22 students have enrolled in the program this year, including 11 enthusiastic Year 7 students who are beginning their basketball development journey at the College.

The College is also pleased to welcome back Shaun Atkins for a second consecutive year as lead coach of the program. His experience and expertise continue to provide valuable guidance and support for students as they work to improve their individual skills, game understanding, and overall performance on the court.

The strong level of student participation reflects the growing enthusiasm for basketball at Oxley and the College’s commitment to supporting students in both their sporting and personal development.

The College looks forward to seeing the continued growth and improvement of all students involved in the program throughout the year.

Christian Sport Leadership Summit

Eight selected students from Years 8 to 11 from Oxley Christian College attended the Christian Sport Leadership Summit held at La Trobe Sports Park on Thursday 14 May.

The summit brought together students from a range of Christian schools across Victoria, providing participants with opportunities to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and communication through a variety of group activities and team-building exercises.

Throughout the day, Oxley students worked collaboratively with students from other schools, building new friendships and learning the importance of leadership and positive participation within sport.

Following lunch, all attendees gathered for a motivational presentation focused on the value of sport participation, leadership, and encouraging others through positive sporting experiences. The session challenged students to think about the important role leaders play both on and off the sporting field.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and felt the summit was a valuable and worthwhile opportunity. The day provided important insights into leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, which students can now bring back to their sporting teams and the wider College community.
