As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on the achievements and progress across our school. With only 16 weeks remaining in their schooling journey, our Year 12 students are now entering the ‘business end’ of their final year. We wish them every success as they prepare for this important phase. Congratulations also to all students who have recently excelled in sporting events, debating competitions, and a variety of other co-curricular activities.

Anzac Day

I'd like to thank Mr James Chatwin for his outstanding organisation of our Anzac Day service. His dedication ensured that it was a truly meaningful and memorable service. We also deeply appreciate the presence of our armed services personnel, whose participation was a significant and powerful part of the ceremony. A special thank you goes to our partner primary schools for joining us and contributing to this fantastic community event.

Understanding Assessment and Reporting:

Assessment is a continuous process that helps us understand your child's learning progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. Some of our key assessment methods include:

Formative Assessments: These are ongoing assessments that take place during the learning process. They include quizzes, classwork, and observations that help teachers identify areas where students may need additional support.

Summative Assessments: These occur at the end of a learning period and evaluate what students have learned. Examples include end-of-term exams, projects, assignments and tests such as NAPLAN.

Self and Peer Assessments: Encouraging students to evaluate their own and each other’s work helps develop critical thinking and self-reflection skills.

Reports will be sent home twice a year, providing a comprehensive overview of your child's academic performance, including grades, teacher comments, and areas for growth. These reports are designed to give you a clear picture of how your child is progressing and where they may need additional support. Reports will also include patterns of attendance, including late arrivals.

Reports for all year groups will be issued soon. To help parents understand student achievement, we will provide a breakdown of the Common Scale as part of your child's report. This scale helps highlight areas of strength and opportunities for growth.

Parent Teacher Night

Our upcoming Parent Teacher Night plays a vital role in fostering a strong partnership between home and school. It is an invaluable opportunity for families to discuss student progress and work collaboratively to support learning goals. We encourage as many families as possible to attend.

Parent-Teacher Nights are an excellent opportunity to:

Discuss your child’s progress: Meet one-on-one with teachers to discuss your child's achievements and areas where they can improve.
Set goals: Collaborate with teachers to set realistic goals for your child's academic and personal development.
Address concerns: Share any concerns you may have about your child's education and work together to find solutions.

To ensure a productive meeting, we encourage you to prepare by reviewing your child’s recent academic report and noting any questions or concerns you may have. Translation services will be available on the night to assist you if required.

Parents and Citizens Committee

Thank you to all parents who attended our recent P&C meeting. Your involvement is invaluable. Please keep an eye out for an email from our incoming president, Mr Brad Hulls, calling for nominations for several executive positions. We also wish to sincerely thank Mrs Vesna Jeromin for her many years of dedicated service and contributions to the P&C.

Subject Selection Evening

A friendly reminder about our upcoming Subject Selection Evening on 30 June. This event is important for students in Years 8 and 10 as they discuss and plan their studies for the next two years. We encourage families to attend and gain a clear understanding of subject options and pathways.

Attendance

Every day at school counts, including being on time each morning. We congratulate the 500 students who achieved attendance of 95% or greater throughout Term 1. Their commitment was celebrated this week with a special BBQ. Let’s continue working together to ensure excellent attendance across our school community.
