Disability Recognition Week

During Week 5, Cecil Hills High School proudly celebrated Disability Recognition Week 2026. The week provided an opportunity for our school community to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion and build greater understanding of visible and invisible disabilities. Throughout the week, students and staff engaged in a range of activities focused on accessibility, advocacy, resilience and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included.
As part of this year’s activities, Cecil Hills High School was proud to support the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative across the NSW Department of Education. The sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that helps raise awareness of non-visible disabilities and encourages understanding, patience and support within the community.
Families are also encouraged to participate at home through the sunflower mindfulness colouring activity, which students could colour, cut out and display as part of our school sunflower wall.
Throughout the week, students and staff participated in presentations, online panel events and wellbeing activities that highlighted the importance of inclusion and belonging for all members of our community. We would like to thank Mrs Kelly Ford and our Inclusive Education Team for leading this important initiative and for their ongoing commitment to fostering a school culture where every student is respected, supported and successful.
