Band and Piano

Our new band students had their first combined band rehearsal last week. It was really exciting for students to hear themselves play together and to realise whether they had practised enough to keep up with their peers. It is an expectation that students practise a minimum of twice a week. Shorter sessions, more often, are generally more effective than one long session. So if you can set 5-10 minutes a day for your child (when their instruments are home), that would be a great start.

Our senior ensemble met together this week, and it was obvious that most had not practised their two band pieces, Blues Adventure and Geronimo, but hopefully, after lessons on Thursday, they will be more confident to move forward.

All students must have their instruments at school on TUESDAY. Piano students should have their music in their bags from Tuesday to Thursday. Our lessons occur from Tuesday to Thursday. As much as we would love to lock in a particular day for each child, we endeavour to work around illness, excursions, and other classroom events as much as possible. It is an incredible balancing act, so students having their instruments at school is really important. If your child does not have band, they are asked to take their instrument home the day of their lesson.

Odd weeks: Junior band on a Thursday during 3rd break.

Even weeks: Senior ensemble on a Thursday during 3rd break.

Daily: Any child may use the music room to practice piano, drums or instruments if at school.
