There has been plenty of opportunities for little hands to get busy as we strengthen our fine motor skills and develop the foundations for writing. The children have been practising their “Tall Man” vertical lines and “Sideways to the Magic Land” horizontal lines in salt trays, with watercolours and even by making rainbow toast!

Along the way, we have also been developing our scissor skills, building hand strength through playdough and enjoying lots of messy sensory experiences.

Our water play, sandpit and messy sensory activities have provided endless opportunities to explore, experiment and investigate, while our dramatic play has followed the children's interests - recently transforming into a busy building and roadworks site!

Learning is always more fun when we can bring a favourite story to life! For Book Week, we stepped into the world of Possum Magic through cooking, making Vegemite sandwiches, pavlovas and lamingtons inspired by the story.

In Pre-Kindy, play is never “just play” — every experience is an opportunity to learn, grow and discover.

ExACT

The ExACT Expo was a wonderful part of our Learning Journey, showcasing the creativity, curiosity and independence of our students. For their projects, students selected a topic they were genuinely passionate about and developed their own 6–8 higher-order thinking (HOTs) questions to investigate.

They then researched and answered their questions, with a strong focus on taking effective notes and writing information in their own words. As the final stage of their project, students created a creative piece connected to their topic, designed to encourage interaction and engage their audience.

The Expo was a fantastic opportunity for students to share their learning with others. Their projects were viewed by visitors at the Expo and revisited during the final weeks of our ExACT lessons, giving students the chance to explain, discuss and celebrate their work. There was lots of learning, lots of fun and plenty of opportunities for students to develop their research, questioning, writing and creative-thinking skills. Most importantly, students took ownership of their learning and enjoyed sharing something that truly interested them. Well done to all the ExACT students for sharing their love of learning with us!

Art

This term, our Annual Art Exhibition once again transformed our school into a vibrant celebration of imagination, learning, and artistic growth. From our Pre‑Primary budding artists to our confident Year 6 artists, each class explored a unique theme, technique, or artist, resulting in a rich and colourful showcase of creativity.

Pre‑Primary — The Smallest Turtle

Inspired by Lynley Dodd’s The Smallest Turtle, our Pre‑Primary students explored the theme of courage. They painted the tiny turtle resting in the sand before reaching the sea, using acrylics to capture his brave journey in expressive, heartfelt artworks.

Year 2 — Protea Flower & Turtle Sculptures

Year 2 students produced two beautiful projects. Their protea flower paintings were inspired by Jude Walker’s abstract style, encouraging students to experiment with mark making, bold lines, and expressive colour. They also created textured turtle sculptures using newspaper, tissue paper, and ink. Inspired by the natural world—one of God’s gifts—these thoughtful artworks celebrate creativity and care for creation.

Year 5 — Expressive Animals & Murakami Sports

Year 5 students experimented with ink and pen to design expressive animal artworks, using colour and line to communicate emotions such as joy, excitement, pain, and hope. They also studied the contemporary style of Takashi Murakami and created energetic artworks inspired by their favourite sport or team, blending playful aesthetics with personal interests.

Year 6 — Expressive Elephants & Catholic Symbols

Our Year 6 students built striking elephant sculptures using newspaper and Modroc bandages, exploring how colour and line can express emotion. Each elephant communicates a feeling—joy, hope, excitement, anger, agitation—and invites viewers to look closely and interpret its story. They also researched Catholic symbols and combined their chosen symbol with Murakami’s colourful, contemporary style. The resulting artworks are bold, meaningful, and beautifully reflective of both faith and creativity.

Across the school, students have shown courage, curiosity, and a growing confidence in their artistic voices. This exhibition is a testament to their hard work and imagination, and we are so proud to share their creations with our school community. Thank you for celebrating the joy of art with us.

Music

It has been a busy and exciting term in the Music Room, with students across the school developing their singing, playing and performance skills while exploring a wide variety of musical styles!

Year 1 students have been learning about the orchestra and the different instrument families. They have also enjoyed singing the energetic hit Walking on Sunshine, bringing plenty of sunshine into our music lessons.

Year 2 students have been exploring the music of Bob Marley and learning about the unique features of reggae music, including its distinctive rhythms and positive messages.

Year 3 students have been busy developing their instrumental skills, performing and singing a medley of songs using ukuleles, guitars and xylophones. It has been wonderful to see their musicianship and teamwork flourish.

Year 4 students have been singing and accompanying themselves on ukulele as they learn the timeless classic Stand By Me. Their playing and singing skills have improved tremendously.

Year 5 students have embraced the challenge of singing the iconic anthem Eye of the Tiger, focusing on strong vocal technique and confident performance.

Year 6 students have been learning guitar and working hard on Bad Moon Rising. They are developing excellent chord-changing skills and growing in confidence as young musicians.

One of the biggest highlights this term has been the arrival of our new microphones and PA system. Students from every year level have thoroughly enjoyed class karaoke sessions, taking turns performing for their classmates and building confidence as performers. The new equipment has brought an exciting concert atmosphere to our lessons and has been a fantastic addition to the Music Room.

Science

🔬 Celebrating Science

Our Learning Journey was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and share the exciting science learning that has taken place across our school this term. Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 showcased their investigations, experiments and developing scientific skills, while families enjoyed photographs from our Science Week, inspired by the theme ‘Seeds for Science’.

🎵 Year 2 – Sound

Year 2 explored sound and vibrations, investigating how sound is produced and travels. Their learning was integrated with Design and Technologies, where students designed, created, tested and evaluated their own musical instruments using recycled materials. The creativity and variety of instruments on display were fantastic!

🌡️ Year 3 – Heat

Year 3 investigated heat and temperature, learning how to measure temperature using thermometers. Students explored friction, conduction, melting, electricity and how colour disperses in hot and cold water. During the Learning Journey, they demonstrated their understanding by measuring the temperature of different liquids.

🧲 Year 4 – Forces

Year 4 brought their learning about forces to life with exciting magnet mazes. Students challenged their parents to see who could guide a paper clip through the maze the fastest! Throughout the term, they explored pushes and pulls, gravity, magnetism, movement and speed, as well as designing and creating their own catapults.

💡 Year 5 – Light

The Science room came alive with holograms as Year 5 students created pyramids that transformed images from digital devices into holographic displays. Their learning about light included shadows, reflection, refraction, absorption and rainbows. Students also investigated how light can change the appearance of objects when it travels through different materials.

⚡ Year 6 – Electricity

Year 6 students have been turned into budding electricians exploring electrical circuits. Beginning with simple circuits using batteries, wires and globes, they progressed to more complex circuits incorporating buzzers, fans and switches. Students also investigated conductors and how different forms of energy are used in electrical systems.
