The Cold War - Year 11 Modern History

Over the course of the term, the year 11 Modern History class has been covering The Cold War, and the events within it. This unit of work has given students the opportunity to learn about political and ideological differences and how those differences impacted people living under them.

As the weeks passed, students found themselves immersed in a variety of role-play activities that guided their understanding of certain events such as a Model UN, where students were able to create their own country and based on their resources and needs, could create trade and alliance agreements with countries of other students. We then moved onto Stalin held elections, which led students to want to create a more democratic style election within the classroom, ultimately leaving us with a class president and vice president.

Shortly after this, our class went on an excursion to Swinburne University to see an Astro Tour put on by Astrophysics PhD students which was part of their study of the Space Race.

The following week we were investigating the topic of Espionage, and to introduce them to the topic, students were able to dress up as spies to solve specific codes that led them to a prize.

This term has been full of wonderful learning and engagement opportunities that the Modern History students have embraced and approached with curiosity and dedication.
