Lake Mountain Snow Experience
Year 11 and 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies
The Year 11 and 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes undertook a 1-day snow-sled and snow play excursion, on Friday 7 August, in the Yarra Ranges National Parks' Lake Mountain Alpine area. The two and a half hour trip to Marysville took in some of the countries largest trees in the Yarra Ranges National Park, most students were sleeping as it was an early start!

Upon arriving at the snow, the students prepared themselves for the day by putting on the Colleges Ski gear, including jackets, pants, gloves and goggles; then hit the sledding slopes, on the beginner and intermediate sledding slopes. There had been 15cm of snowfall in the past week, so the snow was easy to walk through and made for a perfect day of sledding.
Students also headed to the play area to build snowmen, make snow angels and play in the snow. We then discussed the native flora and fauna, and how the park is maintained through different land management strategies. We finished off the day with a visit to the famous Beechworth Bakery in Healesville, before heading back to the College.

The conduct of the students was exemplary, their preparedness for the excursion was to a good standard, and they were polite in their dealings with the members of the park and public, we had a proud group of teachers there on this day. Students will use their experience as part of their future assessment tasks, writing about the learnings they had while experiencing a unique Australian environment.
