National Science Week
August 15th–23rd
National Science Week provided our TSC community with an opportunity to celebrate the importance of science in our everyday lives and the significant role that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) play in shaping our future.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of engaging activities, challenges, demonstrations and discussions. These experiences encouraged students to explore scientific ideas beyond the classroom, ask questions, test their ideas and consider how science contributes to our society.

It was wonderful to see students engaging with science in different ways and embracing curiosity, creativity and critical thinking throughout the week. National Science Week was a great opportunity to celebrate discovery and innovation across our school community.

To celebrate National Science Week (August 15th–23rd)—which aims to spark curiosity and engagement in STEM across Australia—the Psychology team in collaboration with student leaders who are also VCE Psychology Students at Tarneit Senior College hosted interactive activities exploring visual perception and attention.
Students participated in selective attention tests and explored common optical illusions to investigate how our brains filter sensory information and prioritize focus.
By testing their attention in small groups, students gained practical insight into psychological science, seeing firsthand how perception shapes our everyday awareness and learning.
