Legal Studies Incursion

Recently, law students from Monash University came to speak to us about legal studies, focusing on our legal rights when dealing with the police. The talk broke down what police can and cannot do during different situations.

We learned about our rights if we ever get stopped, questioned, or arrested, like when you actually have to give your name and address, your right to stay silent, and your right to make a phone call to a lawyer or parent.

To keep things interesting, the Uni students ran a Q&A with real-life scenarios. Everyone got involved and started thinking carefully about their rights and what the police can and can’t do based on the scenario, especially since there was chocolate up for grabs for answering questions.

Afterwards, the Monash students stuck around to talk with anyone thinking about studying law after school. They gave advice on entry pathways, high school subjects, and what studying law at university is actually like.

Overall, it was a great session that gave us useful advice for real life while helping us figure out options for the future.
