Year 9/10 Sustainable Food Solutions

Food insecurity in Australia affects millions of people, with rising living costs, limited access to fresh produce, and gaps in food literacy making it harder for many households to maintain a healthy, stable diet. It disproportionately impacts groups such as low‑income families, young adults, and remote communities, reducing both nutritional wellbeing and long‑term health outcomes.
In Sustainable Food Solutions, students created an educational tool targeted toward a specific group of Australians. The tool teaches essential cooking skills that build food literacy and aims to reduce food insecurity by empowering users to prepare affordable, nutritious meals. The tool must be appropriate for the user profile the students identify and tailored to their needs, abilities, and access to resources.
