Handsewn Plushie Project-Based Learning

Year 8 Innovate students have been developing their creativity and textile design skills through a hands-on project-based learning unit focused on creating a handsewn plushie for an identified end user.

Using the Design Process, students researched the needs and interests of their chosen user, brainstormed ideas and developed design solutions through annotated sketches and prototyping before creating their final product. Along the way, students built valuable practical skills in hand sewing, including appliqué, pattern making and blanket stitching, while also learning key design and manufacturing terminology.

The project has provided students with the opportunity to combine creativity, problem-solving and technical skills to produce a unique product tailored to the needs of another person.
