Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends
Welcome back for the first PE newsletter of term 4. All students are now into a new unit, so we have a lot to update you on.
Shoutouts!
A special shoutout to Eva. Following on from our last newsletter, she competed against all the other states and territories in an under 12s Netball competition in the Northern Territory in the last week of Term 4. Victoria went undefeated with a 14-0 record to secure the tournament win. Congratulations Eva!!
Over the past 2 weeks our division teams have also had the chance to represent Tarneit Rise. Volleyball, Softball, basketball, tennis and cricket teams have all shown what they can do! We hope to have their results for you in the next newsletter.
Team of the Week
We don’t have a Team of the Week for you this week but be sure to check in next newsletter as we will have TWO. If your teacher is Mr Marley or Ms. Hubbard, keep an eye out for yourself or a friend in the next newsletter.
Preps
Preps are applying their knowledge of different movement skills in preparation for our upcoming assessment period. This term they will be assessed on three important skills. Their fundamental movement skills course, forward rolls and single-hand (tennis) strike.
Grade 1s and 2s
Grade 1 and 2 students have also been focussing on fundamental movement skills and are getting ready for their final assessments as juniors at Tarneit Rise. The fundamental movement skills test, single-hand (tennis) strike and forward rolls are the assessments for these students. We are working on locomotion and single hand strike with the 1’s and 2’s respectively before we assess their movement using the course.
Grade 3s and 4s
The grade 3 and 4 students have begun a unit on Net/Wall games, starting with downball and moving onto badminton and tennis respectively.. These games are tricky to identify, but main components include returning to the middle of the playing area after each shot and playing shots into space to make it harder for your opponent. Assessment for this term will take part in week 5 and week 7, before we are able to report on your students ability in the areas covered in term 3 and 4.
Grades 5s and 6s
Grade 5 and 6 students have also been getting into net and wall games, starting with badminton and tennis respectively. Focussing on court positioning, attacking space and playing a range of different shots to beat your opponent. Assessments are taking place in weeks 5 and 7, meaning we will have all we need to report on your child's ability in terms 3 and 4.
