The Next Fortnight of Learning
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students will continue developing their understanding of fractions, with a focus on adding and subtracting fractions using a range of strategies. We will also begin a unit on probability, where students will explore the likelihood of events occurring and learn how to use numerical scales to record and compare probabilities. Students are continuing their fluency work and are getting really speedy with their multiplication and division facts.
Literacy
We are coming to the end of our novel study of Can You See Me, and students have thoroughly enjoyed following the story and discussing the characters' experiences. The novel has provided many opportunities for thoughtful conversations about empathy, understanding, and inclusion. As we finish our study, we will be shifting our focus to persuasive writing, where students will learn how to develop strong arguments, support their opinions with evidence, and write to convince their audience.
What else is happening:
InterRelate
Students have completed their first Interrelate session, Moving in the Teen Years. The session provided an opportunity to learn about the physical, social, and emotional changes that occur during adolescence, with students engaging thoughtfully in discussions and activities. There are two more sessions coming up!
Memory Books
As outlined in the recent Sentral notice, Grade 6 students will begin creating a memory book next semester to celebrate their primary school years. Students are welcome to start bringing in their memory books now. Please refer to the Sentral communication for information and recommendations regarding what books are suitable.
Division Cross Country
On the 3rd of June Skye Primary went to compete at Division Cross Country in Hastings Foreshore. There was lots of encouragement and competitiveness on the day. In 9/10 girls age group we had Blair. G, 11 girls we had Anna. J, 12/13 girls we had Erisa. K and 12/13 boys we had Ace. M, Jack. S and Zackary. H. It was wonderful to see everyone supporting each other in their running and cheering them on during the races. Overall, it was a great effort from Skye and an amazing cross country day.
