Connect: Year 2

Dear Grade 2 Families,

It has been a busy few weeks  completing assessments and wrapping up a semester of learning. We have been so impressed by the effort, persistence and positive attitude the Grade 2's have shown throughout this period, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. We look forward to meeting with you all at our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences to celebrate these successes and discuss your child's growth, confidence and progress.

Thanks for your support,

Hailee, Emma, Dave and Andrew

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In Stage 7.5 of the Little Learners Love Literacy scope and sequence, students continue building their understanding of the extended code by exploring more complex spelling patterns, long vowel sounds, alternative graphemes and word endings. Students are developing confidence reading and spelling multisyllabic words while also learning about morphology, including common suffixes and spelling rules. Students are strengthening their fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills during this time.

We are continuing our work with The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this familiar tale from the wolf’s perspective. As part of this unit, students are developing their persuasive writing skills by writing letters from the wolf’s perspective to another fairytale villain. They are learning how to form strong arguments and to support their opinions with convincing reasons and examples.

Maths

Over the next few weeks, we will be finishing our Addition and Subtraction unit, with students exploring strategies such as partitioning and bridging to 10 to solve equations efficiently. We will then begin our Measurement unit, where students will investigate mass and capacity through hands-on activities, making predictions and measuring and comparing objects using informal units of measurement.

Science - Push and Pull Forces

We have now completed our Science unit on forces, gravity and buoyancy. Students enjoyed becoming scientists as they made predictions and investigated whether different objects would sink or float. Through these hands-on experiences, they developed their understanding of how forces affect the world around them.
