Sony Foundation Camp

Mount Alvernia College and Marist College Ashgrove is excited to host its 20th Children’s Holiday Camp. This incredible program provides children with special needs the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled three-day camp at no cost to their families, while also giving senior students from Mount Alvernia College and Marist College Ashgrove the chance to take on a rewarding leadership and service role. This year’s camp will be held from Saturday 19 – Monday 21 September.

Student Applications

Applications are now open for students in Year 11 to apply for a role at Sony Camp.

Year 11’s may apply for one or more of the following roles using the Microsoft form that has been distributed to them on MyMtA.

Companion: Shared care of a child (in pairs), for the duration of the camp. This role requires a very high degree of responsibility. Must be present for the duration of the camp, 2.00pm Friday 18 September - 3.00pm Monday 21 September. It is impossible to make exceptions.

Activity Helper: Assisting with activities, media, transport, setup, catering and support of companions and staff. Must be available from 8am to 8pm each day of the camp excluding the last day which will conclude approx. 3pm.

To be selected as a Sony Camp volunteer (in any capacity, i.e. Companion or Activity Helper), you must be available for the following training session as this is considered essential for the safety and well-being of the children in our care:

9.00am - 1.00pm on Sunday 13 September

All student volunteers (companions, facilities) will be required to purchase a Sony Camp t-shirt, priced at about $35. Selection for roles of Companion or Activity Helper are made on the basis of a written application and an interview with College staff.

ANZAC Day Services

Mount Alvernia College invites all students and their families to participate in the 2026 ANZAC Day services hosted by the Kedron‑Wavell RSL Sub‑Branch on Saturday 25 April. As the 2026 support school, our presence across the events is both significant and valued.

Families are welcome to attend any or all services throughout the morning, with particular encouragement to join us for the ANZAC March, where our College community comes together in visible support. Online permission slips from Edsmart for this event will be distributed by the end of term.

Below you will find details of the services scheduled for the day.

Dawn Service – Lutwyche Cemetery

Location: War Graves Section, Lutwyche Cemetery, Kitchener Road, Kedron

5:15am: Students are requested to assemble in front of the cenotaph.
5:30am: Service commences.
6:30am: Conclusion of the Dawn Service.

ANZAC March – Chermside Historical Precinct

Location: Chermside Historical Precinct, 61 Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside

7:30am – 7:45am: Students are requested to gather and assemble on the oval in preparation to march together as a College community.
8:00am: March commences.

Main Service – Kedron-Wavell Services Club

8:30am: Service commences.
At the conclusion of the Main Service, students will depart with their families. Families are encouraged to meet their students promptly at the end of the service.

Uniform Requirements

Students must wear full College formal uniform, including hat and blazer. Students are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle.

Transport

The College will not be providing transport for students on this day (except for members of the choir and student leaders). If your child is attending the Dawn Service and the March/Main Service, transport must be arranged by your family from the Lutwyche Cemetery, Kitchener Road, Kedron to the Kedron-Wavell Services Club, Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside.

Project Compassion

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all members of our College community for your generous support of this year’s Project Compassion Appeal. While final coin donations are still being counted, we are delighted to share that we have already raised more than an extraordinary $11,000!

I extend my thanks especially to our Heads of House, House Captains and Consiglio Representatives for their promotion of this year’s appeal and their planning and facilitation of a range of advocacy and fundraising activities.

Your donations will support the work of Caritas, the Catholic Church’s agency for global development. What this means is the funding of important grassroots development projects in communities in Australia and around the world that will enhance the lives of people in need.
