Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

What a wonderful Book Week! Thank you to all our families who attended the Book Week Parade and helped make the celebration so special. It was fantastic to see the students enjoying the opportunity to celebrate books, reading and their creative costumes. We are now looking forward to welcoming our dads and special visitors as we celebrate Father’s Day together. We hope you can join us for this special occasion.

Year 4 in Term 3:

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students will create a special Father’s Day card for an important person in their life. They will follow instructions to thoughtfully design and create their card, showing care and appreciation for someone special to them.

English:

Next week in English, students will continue exploring The Arrival by Shaun Tan, an illustrated text told entirely through images. Students will analyse illustrations closely to identify important details, infer characters’ thoughts and feelings, and consider how images communicate meaning without words. They will use their analysis to plan and develop a Single Paragraph Outline (SPO), focusing on organising their ideas and supporting them with evidence from the illustrations.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will learn to measure area using formal metric units. They will explore irregular shapes and develop strategies for finding their area by counting full and half squares accurately.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Week 8, students will explore how actors communicate a character’s thoughts and feelings through their performance choices. They will use subtle choices such as facial expressions, gestures, movement, body language and tone of voice to communicate meaning without always relying on words. Students will also explain how these choices help the audience understand their character’s perspective.

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will participate in an End-of-Cycle Review, revisiting the signs and language skills they have learnt throughout the semester. Through a range of engaging games and interactive activities, students will have opportunities to practise, consolidate and apply their learning in different contexts. This review will help students strengthen their confidence and recall of key signs while preparing them to demonstrate their learning in the upcoming assessment

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore Child Protection Week, focusing on children’s rights, safety and help-seeking. Students will identify some of the rights children have and recognise trusted adults they can talk to if they have a worry, a question or something exciting to share. They will also explore what it can feel like to talk with a trusted adult about a worry and why seeking help is important.
