Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

What a wonderful Book Week! Thank you to all our families who attended the Book Week Parade and helped make the celebration so special. It was fantastic to see the students celebrating their love of books and reading while proudly showing off their creative costumes. We are now looking forward to welcoming families, dads and special visitors as we come together to celebrate Father’s Day. We look forward to sharing this special occasion with you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Learning in Year 5 for Term 3:

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will explore what makes a place sacred and how sacred places are understood and respected in Christian and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions. Students will identify similarities and differences between these traditions and develop an understanding of the importance of showing respect and care for places that hold special spiritual and cultural significance.

English:

Next week in English, students will continue reading The Grandest Bookshop in the World. They will explore a range of literary devices and examine how authors use language to engage the reader and add meaning to a text. Students will also continue developing their narrative writing, applying these techniques to create engaging and descriptive stories.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will learn to measure and draw acute, right and obtuse angles. They will practise using a protractor accurately to measure angles and identify whether an angle is acute, right or obtuse.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Integrated Studies, students will continue developing their drama skills by shaping and performing dramatic action using narrative structures and tension. They will explore scripted drama and learn how a script can guide characters, dialogue and action to create an engaging performance for an audience.

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will explore signs related to thinking, such as remember, know and wonder, and learn where these signs are positioned when signing. Students will practise communicating their thoughts while playing a signed game, using Auslan to show their understanding or confusion.

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will continue exploring Child Protection Week, focusing on children’s rights, safety and the importance of having their voice heard. Students will identify trusted adults they can talk to when they have a worry, question or something exciting to share. They will also discuss what it can feel like to share a worry and develop their understanding that it is always okay to seek help from a trusted adult.
