Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Week 7 has been another busy week with Book week and Mass. The costumes were creative and from a variety of books. Students  loved walking around the parade to show off their finery.

The week ahead:

Religious Education: Next week we will be looking at the importance of Mass and the traditions involved in such a special celebration.

Writing:  Next week, students will begin looking at informative writing. We will discuss what informative writing is and how we use it. The first topic students will write about is different Australian birds.

Reading: Next week, students will learn the  /o¯ / sound, represented by the grapheme ow. This spelling usually comes at the end of a word or syllable. E.g. show, low, mow and snow. They will also learn to represent this sound with the single letter o. E.ggo, no, pony, don’t, won’t, only, most.

Integrated Curriculum: We begin to explore puppets using Aesop's fables of The Lion and The Mouse and The Tortiose and the Hare.

Social and Emotional Learning: In Week 8 it is National Child Protection Week which is a special week where people all around Australia think about how to help keep kids safe. It's a time to talk about being kind, listening to each other, and making sure every child feels happy, cared for, and heard.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

Gallery Image

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “What do they know?”, “How do you know?” or "Are you sure?"

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What do you notice about the world around you?

Important Classroom Reminders:

  • Fidget Toys

We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals.

Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home.

We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

  • Spare clothes/change of clothes

Please pack spare clothes with a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident or when they get muddy during recess and play time.

  • Please ensure that you are labelling all your child's belongings.

Important Dates to Remember:

  • Friday 4th September - Father's Day Morning - 8:25am - 9:30am
  • Thursday 17th September - Last Day of Term 3
  • Monday 5th October - First Day of Term 4
