Middle Primary
A special visit from author Coral Vass
Our Year 3/4 students were delighted to welcome Victorian children’s author Coral Vass for a special poetry workshop. Coral has written more than 30 children’s books, including Sorry Day and Grandma’s Treasured Shoes. During the workshop, students had the wonderful opportunity to learn from a real author, exploring some of the tips and tricks writers use to create effective rhythm and rhyme. Together with Coral, the students collaborated to create two poems, sharing ideas and experiencing the fun of bringing a poem to life.
This special experience forms part of our Term 3 Literacy unit on poetry, where students are exploring a range of poetic forms and techniques before creating their own poetry portfolios. At the end of the term, students will have the opportunity to celebrate their learning by sharing selected poems from their portfolios with one another at a Middle Primary Poetry Cafe. We are very grateful to Coral for inspiring our young poets and showing them just how creative, playful and powerful poetry can be!
