Dempsey's Digest
Okay, I’m not sure about you, but I’ve about had enough of the colder, damp weather and am ready for some more sunshine! This has probably been exacerbated for me by the fact that my son now lives in Townsville (plenty of sunshine there) and my husband has just returned from a trip to the Solomon Islands (even more sunshine there!).
Isn’t it funny how we get ‘fed up’ with the season that we are in? I do laugh at myself with that, and love to be re-directed into thinking how much I love about each season. Warm fires in Winter, new life in Spring, colour all through the hills in Autumn and long evenings and BBQ dinners on the deck in Summer. Hold on a minute, how blessed are we!?
I take it back, I love the season we are in!
Term 3 is well and truly underway and it’s exciting to see the growth in our students and the excitement across the school for learning. Rehearsals are in full swing for Finding Nemo and I can’t wait to see our primary school take to the stage! Please pray for Penny Mentiplay and the primary team as they work towards this extravaganza!
School at Work Tours
School at Work Tours have kicked off again for Term 3 and again we are so impressed with the interest in our school. Thanks again parents, for being the best 'marketers' as you share the story of your own child’s experience with others. It’s very encouraging indeed!
MECS hosts CEN Principal’s Gathering
MECS does a great job of hosting events and recently we played host to the CEN Principals group who meet together once a term. Our SP leaders did a beautiful job of greeting our guests and many of the Principals commented on how much they appreciated the interest that the students showed to them. The meeting went well and as always it was such a pleasure to extend MECS hospitality and warmth to our guests.
Indonesian Trip
How beautiful to see the joy in the faces of the Year 10 students and their parents, as they arrived safely home last week from their fantastic trip to Indonesia. You’ll see some great photos of the trip in this newsletter, but all to say it was a huge success. How wonderful that our students get the chance to be exposed to new cultural experiences and practice their language skills in situ! We will have a full report on this trip in the next newsletter.
Association Sub Committee
One of our sub committees of our Board, is the Association subcommittee. This group meets once per term to focus on the association that underpins our school and discusses how we can best promote the association to parents. Being part of the association is a great way to actively support MECS and being an active contributor to keeping our vision and mission alive. AGMs and EGMs are a great way to get a taste of community life and hear how our vision and mission is outworking in the lives of our young people and in our classrooms. It’s also a chance to keep up to date with new initiatives, financial status of the school and building projects. The AGMs and EGMs are the meetings of the association and are planned and approved by the board. It’s also great to see our board in action at these meetings. If you are interested in becoming part of the association, there’s a few things you could do. Firstly, you could come along to the next meeting of the association on the 14th October at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to that meeting, so why not check it out. Otherwise, you might like to consider actually joining the association. Senior Primary Canberra Camp
Our Senior Primary students left at 7.02am on Monday morning, ready for their week in Canberra! This is a significant milestone for MECS as it’s the first time we have done a Canberra trip in Senior Primary. In the past, Canberra was reserved for our secondary students. Over time, as the Victorian Curriculum has developed and changed, there is a significant focus on government in the Senior Primary curriculum, which makes the camp best suited to Senior Primary. By the time you read this, they will be either back or close to being back. What an exciting and memorable trip for these students. I can’t wait to hear all of the stories!
