Chess

Earlier in the Month, the McCarthy Chess Club took part in the first of the chess tournaments of the year. Unlike last year, McCarthy hosted this challenge and was against a strong team from Farrar.

Over the seven rounds which were played, the McCarthy Chess players continued to improve and managed to dominate by placing four of the players into the top five positions. Farrar’s top player did take the first position. The McCarthy team looks forward to taking on their representative players when both schools meet as part of the NSW Regional Secondary Schools Chess competition and the local Tamworth competition. The Farrar team has always been one of our closest rivals.

The top five players of the competition are in the picture above. Congratulations to Matt Manzano, Khang (Charlie) Nguyen, Chaise Gwatkin and Izayah Simmons.

The chess club runs every Friday, second break. The club is open to all players, as well as those who want to learn.
