SUSTAINABILITY NEWS

The Gardening Club were very busy in our gardens today! The seeds we planted have germinated and soon we will have so many beautiful poppies in our garden! We enjoyed picking some of the other flowers today too. Gardening Club continued digging out the beautiful, rich soil our worms have made for us, and we topped up our garden beds with it. It was fun separating the worms from the soil and we found so many babies! We also gave the garden a really good soak, hoping the carrot seeds we planted a few weeks ago will start showing soon.

INTRODUCING THE 5/6 COMPOST NINJA TEAM!

The Year 5/6s learned about what happens to left over food waste when we put it in our rubbish bins. When in landfill, food breaks down over time, releasing large volumes of methane gas into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. So, each class will collect any food waste in their class compost caddy, which the Compost Ninjas will collect each day and empty into our worm farms. There is also a new white bin outside the library for the odd apple core or banana peel students have in the playground, so these will not need to go in the regular bins. We hope this system means we will be reducing the amound of rubbish we send to landfill as well as helping create nutrient rich compost for our gardens.

SUPER 20% DISCOUNTS - ORDER YOUR FRUIT AND VEGETABLE BOXES

Farmers’ Pick have offered us a huge 20% off for all new orders! Trinity is participating in the ‘Feed Our School’ fundraising initiative by Farmers Pick, an organisation that prevents ‘perfectly imperfect’ fruit and veg from ending up in landfill by selling boxes of this produce that supermarkets can't. Families can order fruit and veg boxes online, and have it conveniently delivered to Trinity every Tuesday.  Better yet, their produce is priced up to 30% less than at the supermarket, and Trinity receives $5 for every box ordered! See flyers attached for more information.

NUDE FOOD DAY - NEW DAY - THURSDAYS

We ask students to choose foods which create no rubbish to bring for lunch on this day. Some great ideas can be found at https://www.nudefoodday.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/HOW-TO-PACK-A-NUDE-FOOD-LUNCH.pdf

Have a great week everyone! Thanks for your great efforts in helping us live in a way that is kinder to our environment!
