Principal's Report

Be Awesome Day 2026
We celebrated another successful Be Awesome Day on Friday. For those who may not be familiar with this special day, it is a lasting legacy in honour of our former friend and colleague, Mr Mark ‘Stevo’ Stevens.
Stevo was an amazing teacher at SGPS, whose passion and enthusiasm for his students were infectious. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met, and not a day goes by that we aren't reminded of the incredible impact he had on our school community.
Our school motto, ‘Be Awesome’, was Stevo’s favourite saying when talking to students. He could often be heard encouraging them to be awesome. When they responded with, ‘I already am’, Stevo would simply tell them to be even more awesome!
A special thank you to Mrs Edwards and Mrs Rodda for coordinating such a memorable day. Thanks also to our Parent Club for organising the Colour Run, and to all the parents who volunteered their time or came along to support the celebrations. Finally, congratulations to our students for the fantastic job they did planning and running their activities. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, creativity and school pride throughout the day.
Grandparents Day 2026
A highlight on our calendar each year is Grandparents Day. This year we had our usual strong attendance with well over 200 visitors. Students clearly loved showing off their classroom and doing activities with their special visitor. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
2027 Parent Contributions Arrangements
Please check the 'Admin News' tab for details relating to booklists for next year. A hard copy of these will also be sent home with your child soon.
Placement Requests for 2027
Throughout November, we will be working through the process of developing our class structures and student placements for 2027.
We understand that friendships are important to children and that parents naturally want their children to be happy, settled and connected with their peers. In previous years, we have worked to maintain existing friendship groups where possible. However, we also need to consider the broader social and educational needs of all students and create balanced classroom environments that support positive relationships, learning and wellbeing. This sometimes means maintaining existing friendships while also providing opportunities for children to develop new ones.
If you have any concerns about friendship placements for your child in 2027, please feel free to email me at Francis.Trezise@education.vic.gov.au by Friday, 13 November. This will allow us to consider any relevant information as we work through the process. Unfortunately, we won't be able to consider requests received after this date.
We are unable to accept requests for specific teachers, as it would be impossible to accommodate individual preferences. Our approach is to first develop balanced class groups, taking into account students' social and educational needs, before matching teachers to each class. This allows us to give careful consideration to the needs of every student and create positive learning environments across all classrooms.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work through this important process.
Assembly Postponed
Due to the Colour Run on Friday afternoon, our school assembly will be held today (Monday) at 3.00pm instead. My apologies for any inconvenience this change may cause.
World Teachers' Day
We celebrated World Teachers’ Day last Thursday, a day early due to Be Awesome Day on Friday. It was a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the wonderful work our teachers do every single day. Thank you for the care and commitment you bring to your classrooms. The relationships you build, the encouragement you provide and the little things you do each day make such a difference to our students. We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team of teachers who give so much to our school and students. Thank you for everything you do!
Final Curriculum Day for 2026
Our final Curriculum Day for 2026 will be held on Wednesday, 18th November. Staff will be using this day for assessment and reporting.
