Message from the Prinicpal

I hope everyone has had a positive start to the week. As we continue through a busy Term 3, I would like to thank our families for the many ways you support your children and work in partnership with the College. A strong and respectful relationship between home and school plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for every student.

Before-School Supervision

There have been an increasing number of students arriving at school quite early each morning. Please be advised that staff supervision begins at 8:25am and children are not supervised in the yard before this time.

We ask that parents and carers, particularly those of our primary students, ensure children are not left unsupervised before official supervision begins. Before-school care is available through OSH Club should your family require supervision prior to 8:25am.

Approaching Students in the School Yard

We also remind parents and carers that they should not approach, question or reprimand another family’s child in the school yard. We understand that concerns can sometimes arise between students; however, these matters must be managed by College staff to ensure they are addressed appropriately, fairly and with the wellbeing of all children in mind.

Please raise any concerns with your child’s classroom or homegroup teacher, who will provide support and follow up the matter through the appropriate College processes.

Traffic Stafety

In the interests of keeping all children and families safe, we ask that parents and carers do not double park during drop-off or pick-up times. Double parking causes congestion and creates blind spots for children and families attempting to cross the road.

While I understand the challenges associated with parking in our local area, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. I therefore ask all families to refrain from double parking and to prioritise the safety of our community.

Parent / Carer/ Teacher Interview

Earlier this week, our Parent / Carer / Teacher Interviews were held. These interviews provided a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s current learning progress, as well as their future academic, personal and social goals.

The meetings also enabled conversations about Individual Education Plans, where applicable, and the other supports the College has in place to optimise each child’s learning experience.

I would like to thank all families who attended these interviews. Families who were unable to attend are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher to arrange an alternative time.

Curriculum Day- Wednesday 5th August

P-Year 2

Tomorrow’s Curriculum Day will see our P-2 staff group undertake professional development around literacy content and pedagogy for our littlest learners. Run by Decodable Readers Australia, the day will provide our educators an opportunity to develop their understanding of the current research around literacy acquisition and effective pedagogical approaches in the delivery of content. These days are such a wonderful opportunity for us to continue our own learning journey and improve our practice. We look forward to sharing more with our community about this learning throughout the year.

Year 3- 6

During our upcoming Curriculum Day, Year 3–9 teachers will focus on improving Student Support Group meetings through a “team around the learner” approach. Staff will explore practical ways to include student and family voices, ensuring each learner’s strengths, needs and interests guide planning and support.

Staff will also strengthen their knowledge and practices for supporting student mental health and wellbeing. They will explore how anxiety and depression may present in young people and review our school processes for responding to wellbeing concerns.

3-6 Assembly

During 3-6 Assembly, we continued our focus learning about bullying.  Last week we revised what bullying can look like and how to be an upstander.  Students chose actions to try as an upstander.  

Professional Learning for Educational Support Workers

Professional Learning for Educational Support Workers

Anna, our school speech pathologist recently delivered professional learning to our Education Support staff about Proloquo2Go. Proloquo2Go is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app that uses words and symbols to support students who have difficulty communicating through speech.

Staff explored how to model the use of Proloquo2Go and incorporate it into activities that build students’ vocabulary, communication skills and participation in learning. This strengthens our inclusive, strengths-based approach by giving students another way to express their ideas, needs and preferences, ensuring every learner can make choices, participate and be heard.
