English Year 7
In Term 3, Year 7 English students will study the novel Chinese Cinderella. Through this story, students will explore important themes, character experiences, and historical events from a historical fiction perspective. Throughout the unit, students will summarise key events, compare different themes, and discuss how these themes affect the characters. Key themes include family, friendship, belonging, mistreatment, and bias. Students will use evidence from the novel to support their ideas in class discussions and written responses. They will also complete independent reading and use Cornell Notes to organise their questions, evidence, and key ideas. By the end of the unit, students will strengthen their reading comprehension by interpreting, analysing, and evaluating the text using evidence to justify their thinking.
Health Year 7
This term, students will focus on personal safety, first aid, and help-seeking strategies. They will learn basic first aid responses and how to recognise when someone may need support. Students will also explore how to access help from trusted individuals and services, building confidence to act safely and responsibly in emergency and everyday situations.
PE and Interschool Sport Year 7
This term, students will participate in territory games such as basketball, netball, soccer, and handball. They will focus on creating and defending space, understanding attacking and defensive strategies, and working effectively within team roles. Students will also develop their decision-making skills in dynamic game situations. Interschool Sport will focus on matchplay situations and modified games experience in Basketball.
Mathematics Year 7
Term 3 is an exciting step in Year 7 Mathematics because students begin developing their algebraic thinking and the fundamentals of probability. Throughout the term, they will also continue to strengthen their understanding of measurement, geometry.
Students will begin the term by exploring algebraic expressions and learning how to use variables to represent unknown values in everyday situations. Later, students will apply their understanding of measurement and geometry by investigating angle relationships.
To conclude the term, students will be introduced to probability. They will explore the likelihood of events, assign probabilities to outcomes, and predict relative frequencies. These activities encourage students to think critically about chance, data and the reliability of predictions.
Science Year 7
In Term 3, Year 7 Science students will explore Earth and Space Science and Energy. In the Earth and Space Science unit, students will investigate the interactions between the Sun, Earth and Moon, and develop an understanding of day and night, seasons, Moon phases, tides and eclipses. In the Energy unit, students will identify different forms of energy and examine how energy is transferred and transformed in everyday objects and systems. They will also explore the law of conservation of energy and investigate how energy efficiency can be represented and evaluated. Throughout the term, students will participate in practical investigations, analyse scientific evidence, use scientific vocabulary and communicate their understanding through diagrams and written explanations. We also look forward to celebrating Science Week during Week 6, with opportunities for students to engage with and celebrate the importance of science in our everyday lives.
Design and Technology
Woodtech Year 7
Year 7 students will be introduced to safe practices in the wood technology workshop. Emphasis will be on developing good habits such as keeping the work area clean and tidy. Ensuring that each individual behaves responsibly in a safe manner. And most importantly to be consistent. Thus, the motto for students will be to keep it clean, keep it safe and keep it up.
Students will then be introduced to hand tools and how to use them correctly. Focus will be on safe habits and the emphasis on responsible behaviour in the wood technology workshop. This is followed by measuring, marking and cutting using hand tools. Students will then begin to build their own small wood work project which will allow them to practice basic woodworking skills in a safe and responsible manner.
FoodTech Year 7
This term, the Year 7 students will begin by making cheese toasties, focusing on basic kitchen skills, safety, and hygiene. They will then progress to cooking a variety of dishes, including fried rice, creamy spinach and tomato pasta, brownies, chicken biryani, and cupcakes, allowing them to develop confidence in using different ingredients and techniques. Alongside practical cooking lessons, students will explore the design aspect of technology by selecting a country and creating a three-course meal. They will research traditional meals, their cultural significance, and how they have evolved over time in terms of preparation and presentation. Additionally, students will analyse food and fibre production, exploring ways to make them more sustainable. Through this combination of practical and theoretical learning, students will enhance their culinary skills while gaining a deeper understanding of global cuisines and sustainable food practices.
Visual Arts Year 7
Visual Arts students will develop an understanding of the elements and principals of art through a range of weekly exercises to develop foundational skills in Visual Arts practices and media techniques. They will learn about contemporary and historical artists and artworks, understanding that artworks can be interpreted from a range of different viewpoints, as artists and audience. At the completion of the unit, students’ will understand how to plan, and document their practice in a Visual Arts Diary, culminating in the creation of a finished painted collage that will be displayed at the annual school art exhibition.
Performing Arts Year 7 MUSIC
Music students developed foundational knowledge in music vocabulary and how musical elements are used to create meaning. They explored concepts such as dynamics, tempo, pitch, and rhythm through class discussions, listening tasks, and journal reflections. Students analysed various musical pieces and responded to how composers use sound to create mood, tension, and storytelling. Building on this, students applied their knowledge by creating their own digital compositions using GarageBand. Each student composed music for a spooky short story, making creative choices about instrumentation, layering, and sound effects. Through this project, students learned to think like composers, developing their ability to create atmosphere through sound. They also shared their work with their peers, building confidence and reflecting on how music can be used to support narrative structure
