Physical Education Term 3 Overviews

PREP (FOUNDATION)
In Term 3, foundation students will continue to develop their fundamental movement skills. Tobegin the term, foundation students will focus on learning and practising rolling. They willmanipulate equipment such as balls to develop control and accuracy through their rolling actions. This will transition to focus on the underarm throw skill in which developing control and accuracywill be developed through practising and forming correct technique. Throughout this term, foundation students will continue to practise fundamental movement skills and begin to applythese skills in a range of active play, games and movement activities.
YEAR 1
During Term 3, Year 1 students will develop and apply their fundamental movement skills through a varietyof fun and engaging games and activities, with a focus on developing the overarm throw, game sense andcollaboration skills. Students will explore and practise the key components of an effective overarm throw, including side-on positioning, stepping towards a target, rotating the body and following through. Throughmodified games and activities, students will begin to understand how movement, positioning and simplestrategies can help them achieve success and solve problems in different game situations. Students willdevelop their ability to work cooperatively with others, communicate ideas, share equipment, take turnsand adapt their actions to support their team. They will demonstrate fair play, teamwork, inclusion andrespect while participating safely in a range of individual, partner and small-group activities. This learningsupports students as they work towards the Victorian Curriculum Level 2 achievement standards bydeveloping and applying fundamental movement skills and exploring ways to work collaboratively andmake simple decisions in physical activity contexts.
YEAR 2
In Term 3, Year 2 students will continue to develop and practise their fundamental movementskills and apply these skills in a variety of movement activities. Students will continue toinvestigate different ways of movement and manipulating objects/equipment. Within a range ofactivities, students will focus on further developing the fundamental movement skills of overhandthrow and the forehand strike. Students will continue to enhance their overhand throw skill by continuing to form correct technique in order to maintain accuracy and safety within the space. The forehand strike will be a new skill that will be introduced to Year 2 students where they will use equipment safely to strike both stationary and moving balls towards targets. This skill will then be developed and begin to be applied in game situations.
YEAR 3
During Term 3, Year 3 students will develop and apply their fundamental movement skills through a variety of modifi ed Net & Wall Games. Students will learn and practise skills such as the forehand strike, underarm and overarm serving, volleying, catching, movement into space and ready position while using a range of equipment including balloons, beanbags, paddles, racquets and modifi ed balls. Through fun, game-based activities, they will begin to understand how positioning, movement and simple tactics can help them keep a rally going, win points and work effectively with a partner or team. Students will refi ne their movement skills across increasingly challenging situations, apply basic game strategies, provide positive feedback to their peers and demonstrate fair play, teamwork and inclusion. This learning supports students as they work towards the Victorian Curriculum Level 4 achievement standards by refi ning and applying movement skills across a range of movement contexts and using strategic thinking to improve game performance.
YEAR 4
During Term 3, Year 4 students will develop and apply their movement skills through a variety of modifi ed Net & Wall Games. Students will build on their understanding of skills such as the forehand strike, underarm and overarm serving, volleying, catching, movement into space and ready position while using a range of equipment including paddles, racquets and modifi ed balls. Through increasingly challenging game-based activities, students will explore how positioning, movement and tactical decision-making can help them maintain rallies, create space, defend effectively and win points. Students will refi ne their skills in competitive and cooperative situations, apply a range of simple tactics, communicate effectively with teammates, provide constructive feedback and demonstrate fair play, teamwork and inclusion. This learning supports students as they work towards the Victorian Curriculum Level 4 achievement standards by refi ning and applying movement skills in a range of movement contexts and developing strategic thinking to improve individual and team performance.
YEAR 5
During Term 3, Year 5 students will continue to build on their understanding of Net & Wall Games by refi ning a range of specialised movement skills and applying them in increasingly complex game situations. Students will develop greater consistency and control when serving, rallying, volleying and striking withboth paddles and racquets while learning to create space, recover after each shot and make effective decisions under pressure. Through modifi ed games and tactical challenges, they will explore how shot selection, court positioning and communication infl uence team success. Students will regularly analyse their own and others' performances, provide constructive feedback and adapt strategies to improve movement outcomes. They will also demonstrate leadership, collaboration and fair play while working with a variety of partners and teams. This learning supports students as they work towards the Victorian Curriculum Level 6 achievement standards by refi ning movement skills, transferring strategies between different game situations and contributing positively to team performance.
YEAR 6
During Term 3, Year 6 students will further refi ne their specialised movement skills through a range of Net & Wall Games that challenge both their technical ability and tactical decision-making. Students will demonstrate greater precision and consistency when serving, rallying, volleying, smashing and placing shots while adapting their movement to different opponents, game formats and court spaces. They will investigate and apply advanced game strategies such as creating and defending space, disguising shots, anticipating opponents' movements and selecting the most effective attacking or defensive option during play. Throughout the unit, students will analyse performance data, evaluate the effectiveness of different movement strategies and make informed adjustments to improve individual and team performance. They will also take on leadership roles by supporting teammates, promoting fair play and helping to create inclusive learning environments. This learning prepares students for secondary physical education by developing confi dent, strategic and refl ective performers who can successfully transfer movement concepts and tactical thinking across a variety of movement contexts, consistent with the Victorian Curriculum Level 6 achievement standards.
