40-Hour Famine Challenge
The King’s College is proud to have taken part in the 40-Hour Famine World Vision project to raise awareness and support for children facing hunger. This was the first year our high school students participated - second year for our Primary - and the fortnight of activities was a resounding success for the whole College community.
With a fundraising target of $4,000, we were thrilled to exceed our goal! Students engaged in a variety of challenges, from giving up furniture for the day to walking 40 laps of the oval—symbolising the long distances many children and women walk to collect fresh water. Staff also joined in, with some bravely giving up caffeine (a much harder task than it seemed!).
One of the most meaningful highlights was the challenge to complete 40 “Acts of Kindness,” where students served at home, supported friends, or showed kindness to peers. The fortnight concluded with two celebratory events—a lively disco for the primary students and a whole-school sausage sizzle—bringing our community together in joy and generosity.
Year 7 & 8 Service Learning – Giving Back to Our Community
Our Year 7 and 8 students have recently been engaged in Service Learning, embracing opportunities to give back to the community in meaningful and practical ways.
Students have partnered with local organisations such as the Salvation Army Op Shop, Sunflower Op Shop, and the Permaculture Farm. Through these experiences, they have learned the value of service, teamwork, and using their time and talents to make a difference. Whether it was sorting donations, assisting in gardening, or helping with food preparation, our students approached each task with energy and a servant-hearted attitude.
These experiences not only allowed them to contribute to the wider community but also encouraged them to reflect on the importance of generosity, stewardship, and compassion in their own lives.
Service Learning continues to be an important part of our College program, shaping our young people into thoughtful and caring contributors who look beyond themselves to serve others.
