Year 11 Camp
Olivia Elphick | Year 11 Student
In Week 6 of Term 3 our Year 11 cohort headed to Geographe Camp in Busselton for our final camp together, and it was unforgettable. The bus ride set the tone, with music blasting and everyone singing along. At first, the camp didn't look like much, but the three days turned out to be packed with fun. During a beach challenge on the first day, we encountered a lot of rain, which caused us to slip during our fun activities but also have us being soaked. Some of us even risked the chilly ocean for a little dip, which was freezing but an unforgettable experience. Over the next two days, we tackled treetop ropes (terrifying at first, thrilling by the end), competed in a hilarious "sporting Olympics" that even tested Mr Lewis' patience with his PE class, and kayaked through the open water, laughing the whole way. Night activities included a walk along the Busselton Jetty and a camp scavenger hunt. By the end, everyone had made new friendships and strengthened old ones. It was the perfect way to finish our last camp as a year group, an experience we'll all look back on and laugh about for years to come.
Alera Taylor | Year 11 Student
In Week 6 of Term 3, the Year 11 cohort attended a 3-day camp at Scripture Union Campsite in Busselton. The campus was located right off the shore of the beach, giving us a beautiful view of the ocean, and a place to hold fun activities such as kayaking, team building games, volleyball and long walks and chats. Despite a few unexpected rain showers, all of us students were still able to have so much fun, and many friendships were strengthened while new ones formed. The staff were extremely welcoming and always made sure we were safe and okay. The camp was a core memory for all of us, and we are all very grateful for having the opportunity and privilege of attending this camp!
Honours Assembly
Mr Raymond Andrew | Head of English and Assistant Deputy Principal Learning
The Semester 2 Honours Assembly was held at the College Auditorium on Friday, 19 September. 141 Honours badges were awarded to more than 100 students, with a significant number receiving more than one badge. The Gold, Silver and Bronze Honours badges are awarded in the following categories: Academics, Sports, Arts and Citizenship.
Students wear their highest-ranked badges on the left lapel of their blazers with pride, recognising their courage, commitment and effort. In his closing address, Interim Principal, Mr Daniel O'Malley, celebrated the growth mindset - being willing to try, to fail, and to try again. Mr O'Malley characterised this growth mindset as the "greatest predictor of success", building habits that carry on into every aspect of students' adult lives.
Book Week
Mr Raymond Andrew | Head of English and Assistant Deputy Principal Learning
Book Week festivities have certainly grown from strength to strength, celebrating the value and importance of books in our College community. More students enthusiastically dressed up as their favourite book characters, with Year 7 and Year 12 students in particular showing passion and creativity. The Lorax and Alice in Wonderland were popular themes.
As always, the teachers were out in full force, with a whole team of Wallies walking the corridors. The whole of the Responsive Education team came dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2, except it was Thing 1 to 11, with the Head of Responsive Education, Mrs Anja van der Westhuizen, leading the way as the Cat in the Hat. Rumour has it that the Mad Hatter was in attendance. Someone also sighted the lion from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, prowling the Administration Office.
In the lead-up to Book Week, secondary English and HASS teachers also conducted Drop Everything and Read (DEAR). DEAR periods give students time in class to engage in uninterrupted and sustained reading, building an interest in books and developing the ability to focus.
We are proud to announce that 55 students participated in The King's Tales, our College's Creative Writing Competition, held in conjunction with Book Week. The following students will receive their trophies in Term 4:
