As we begin a new school year, I warmly welcome all members of our community to what promises to be a year filled with growth, opportunity and shared success.
A very special welcome to our new Year 7 students, along with all new students and families joining us across Years 8–12. Starting at a new school is both exciting and a little daunting, and we are delighted that you are now part of our Catholic community. We also extend a warm welcome to the new staff members who have joined us this year. Your gifts, talents and dedication will enrich the life of our school.

The start of the year has already been filled with energy and house spirit at our annual Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to Xavier House on being crowned Swimming Carnival Champions for 2026 – a fantastic achievement built on enthusiasm, participation and teamwork. Well done also to all students who represented their houses with pride and especially to those who were awarded Age Group Champion medals.
There are several important events coming up in the next few weeks:
Year 7 Family BBQ and Information Evening – February 16
We look forward to gathering with our Year 7 families for a relaxed BBQ and Information Night. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Homeroom Teachers and other important staff in your child’s school life, connect with other families and learn more about the year ahead. We strongly encourage all Year 7 families to attend. Formalities will begin at 7:15pm, allowing those also attending the St Mary’s Welcome Picnic to arrive on time.
Ash Wednesday – February 18
On Ash Wednesday, we will have an opportunity in House or Homeroom to mark the beginning of the Lenten season. This important liturgical celebration invites us to reflect, renew and prepare our hearts during this sacred time in the Church’s calendar.
Beginning of Year Mass and Student Leader Commissioning – February 20
Our Beginning of Year Mass will be a special occasion as we come together in prayer and thanksgiving for the year ahead. During this Mass, our 2026 student leaders will be formally commissioned into their roles. We congratulate them on their appointment and look forward to the leadership, service and example they will provide to our community.
Celebrating the Achievements of Our Alumni
It was with great pride that we saw two of our past students recognised at the 2026 Australia Day Ceremony for their outstanding contributions and leadership.
Bella Henderson (Year 12, 2025) was presented with an Achievement Award in recognition of her dedication to theatre and the positive example she set for others throughout her secondary school years. Bella’s commitment, creativity and willingness to support her peers left a lasting impact on our school community.

Eva Wong (Year 12, 2020) received the prestigious Young Citizen Award. Eva has inspired many through the creation of Move Swim, an inclusive and social swimming initiative designed to promote physical health, mental wellbeing and meaningful social connection within the community.

We congratulate Bella and Eva on these well-deserved honours. Their achievements reflect the values of service, leadership and compassion that we strive to nurture in our students, and we are incredibly proud of the difference they continue to make.
As we commence this new year, may we be guided by faith, inspired by hope and strengthened by our shared commitment to excellence and service. I encourage every student to embrace the opportunities before them, strive to do their best, and contribute positively to our vibrant school community.
May God bless our school and each of our families as we journey together throughout 2026.
