We warmly welcome our new Year 7 Koorie families to the school community.
This term, a number of our junior Koorie students have been participating in the Mornington Peninsula Shireâs Junior Ranger Program, providing valuable opportunities for On Country learning. So far, students have engaged in a range of cultural activities, including making rope and necklaces, preparing damper, creating clapsticks and spears, and making lemon myrtle truffle balls. They have also taken part in a bushwalk at Point Nepean, explored ochre painting, and had the opportunity to yarn with Elders.
Â
Next term, on  May 7, we are excited to host KELiS (Koorie Emerging Leaders in Schools). This event will bring together students from a number of Bayside schools for a day focused on connecting to culture and strengthening leadership and self-determination. The program will include workshops led by a Bunurong Elder, Nairm Marr Djambana (Frankston Gathering Place), and VACCA, all supporting the personal growth and cultural connection of our young people.
Â
All the best,
Olivia RoedingÂ
