It has been an exciting and rewarding season for our school sailing team, with students demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork and determination on the water.

The team competed for the John and Helen Middleton Trophy in a regatta series running across the sailing season. Notably, we were the only public school in the competition, and our students rose to the challenge, proving themselves to be strong competitors in a highly tactical teams racing format. Each race involved two teams of three boats, requiring not only strong sailing ability but also quick thinking, communication and strategy.

I am incredibly proud to share that our team achieved an outstanding second place overall, finishing just behind Balcombe Grammar. Along the way, we secured impressive victories against Woodleigh, Toorak College and Peninsula Grammar, highlighting the hard work of our team.

The sailing season runs across Term 4 and Term 1. Training takes place at McCrae Yacht Club, where students have had the opportunity to refine their skills in a supportive and challenging environment. Our sailors also compete in various club regattas across the season, with Acklin Stent about to represent Dromana College in the Australian Secondary Schools Sailing Championships at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie.

A special thank you must go to our coach, Mark Bulka, whose expertise, dedication and guidance have been invaluable throughout the season. His support has played a significant role in the team’s success, and we are grateful for his time and commitment.

We are always looking to welcome new members to the team. If you are interested in getting involved next season, please see Ms Van Galen for more information.

Congratulations again to all our sailors on a fantastic season!
