Principal's Report
Term 1, 2026
Term 1 continues to be an outstanding success, and the positive atmosphere around our school, along with our students' collective focus on learning, is commendable. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding commitment and enthusiasm of our students in participating in the many co-curricular activities on offer at our school, including the annual Sports Carnival, musical soirees, cycling club, drama club, and swim squad, to name a few.
A special congratulations to our inter-school swimming team for their fantastic efforts in the pool on Thursday, 26 February 2026. The College has now secured this championship for the sixth year in a row! Additionally, I am delighted to share the success of our recent Athletics Day at Ballam Park. It was a whole-school event, and I was extremely proud of the students' engagement and the way they represented our college on the day.
Open Night was another highlight of the term. It was wonderful to see so many students volunteering, engaging with parents, and demonstrating their pride in our school. The strong sense of community and school spirit displayed by our students is truly inspiring and a testament to the positive culture we continue to foster at Dromana College.
Year 7 Camp – Phillip Island
Our Year 7 students are currently enjoying their annual pastoral camp at the picturesque Phillip Island. This three-day experience is an important milestone in the transition to secondary school, offering students a chance to build friendships, develop resilience, and strengthen their connection to the wider school community.
The camp program includes a range of outdoor and team-building activities designed to support student wellbeing and foster a strong sense of belonging. I look forward to visiting the camp and seeing our newest cohort in action—laughing, learning, and living the Dromana College values beyond the classroom.
Student Achievement – Lions Youth of the Year
Congratulations to Ethan Tangatatutai, Molly Sawyer, Camryn Small, Tia Van Raay and Daisy Montgomery, who all represented Dromana College at the Lions Youth of the Year competition.
Each student performed exceptionally well, demonstrating strong leadership, communication, and public speaking skills. A special congratulations to Camryn Small, who received the Public Speaking Award, and to Ethan Tangatatutai, who was named the overall winner and will now progress to the next stage of the competition.
We are very proud of all students for their outstanding efforts and achievements.
Student Achievement – Molly Sawyer
I am pleased to share that Year 11 student Molly Sawyer achieved an excellent result at the Head of the Schoolgirls’ Regatta in Geelong. Representing Dromana College, Molly won Heat 7 of the Female School Single Scull and went on to place first in the B Final with a time of 6:42.38.
This is a significant achievement, Congratulations Molly!
Molly is currently in Tasmania competing at the National Rowing Championships. We wish her every success.
Student Achievement – Fenella Collins
I am pleased to share that past Year 12 student Fenella Collins was selected to present her VCE Extended Investigation at Top Talks 2026, part of the VCE Season of Excellence presented by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.
Top Talks showcases outstanding student research from across Victoria, and Fenella’s selection reflected the high quality of her work and her commitment to academic excellence.
The event was held at the State Library Victoria, and we congratulate Fenella on this significant achievement.
College Council Election Results
The College Council elections have concluded, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome all new and returning members to the Dromana College Council. I look forward to working alongside the council to continue delivering excellence in education for the Mornington Peninsula.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the retiring members of the College Council for their invaluable contributions in making Dromana College the exceptional school it is today.
Building Fund
We have received many generous donations this year towards our tax-deductible Building Fund. On behalf of the College community, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for these contributions.
The funds received are securely held and will be used to enhance the physical environment in which our students learn. Thank you for your continued support.
Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews
Parent–Teacher–Student Interviews were held on Monday, 30 March 2026, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. This was a student-free day.
These interviews provided an important opportunity for families, students, and teachers to discuss learning progress and support a strong start to the 2026 academic year
Community Partnership – Rotary Club of Dromana
We would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the Rotary Club of Dromana for their generous donation of $1,000 to support breakfast for our disadvantaged students.
This contribution is already making a meaningful difference, helping to ensure students begin the day ready to learn and engage fully in their education. We are grateful for Rotary’s ongoing commitment to supporting young people in our community and value this important partnership.
Looking Ahead – Term 2
Looking ahead to Term 2, we will be undertaking course counselling for students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11, supporting them to make informed decisions about their learning pathways.
We also look forward to our College musical, Grease, which will be performed at the Frankston Arts Centre—an exciting opportunity to showcase the talents of our students.
Accident Insurance Cover for Students
Certain school activities, including physical education and contact sports, inherently carry a risk of injury. Parents are advised that the Department of Education does not provide Student Accident Insurance.
If a child is injured at school, all associated medical costs remain the responsibility of the parent or caregiver. While some expenses may be covered by Medicare or private health insurance, any additional costs must be borne by the family.
Parents who wish to ensure additional coverage may consider purchasing Student Accident Insurance through an approved provider.
Personal Goods Brought to School at Owner’s Risk
Personal property, including mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment, and vehicles parked on school premises, is often brought to school by students, staff, and visitors.
Please note that the Department of Education does not provide insurance for personal property brought to schools and is not responsible for any loss or damage to such items. We encourage all members of our school community to be mindful of their belongings and take necessary precautions to keep them safe.
We look forward to an incredible year ahead and thank our students, staff, and families for their continued support and dedication to making Dromana College a thriving learning environment.
