What a wonderful start to Term 1 we have had! The students are settling in beautifully, building new friendships and classroom routines, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings.
In Literacy, we have been reading A Year on Our Farm, which explores how things, places, people and even animals can change over the course of a year. Students have enjoyed discussing the seasons, observing changes, and making connections to their own experiences. They particularly love the animals!
This has linked perfectly with our Humanities unit, where students have been exploring local places in our community. We have been learning about natural and constructed features and discussing how weather and time can change places around us. It has been wonderful to see students making thoughtful connections between our subjects.
In Numeracy, we have been learning all about data collection, tally marks, and picture graphs. The students have especially loved surveying one another and turning their survey results into graphs. It has been fantastic to see their excitement as they interpret and share their findings with the class! Additionally, we have been exploring Place Value through the use of lots of concrete materials such as tens frames, counters and MAB blocks!
We have also enjoyed celebrating Valentine’s Day together, sharing kindness and friendship within our classroom, had our first week of Friday clubs and have even celebrated a few birthdays!
It has truly been a wonderful and busy start to the year, we can’t wait to see what the next 5 weeks have in store!
