From the Assistant Principal

I would like to take to opportunity to congratulate all of our students and staff for their efforts over the past term and wish you all a safe and relaxing Winter break, but first...

Professional Learning:

During Term 2 our In-class Educational Support staff have enrolled and completed an online course focused on Inclusive Classrooms to enable them to even more effectively support students in the classroom and around our school.  The core units are below:

The team then selected two of the following modules to support their specialist knowledge, all of which will be put into practice in Term 3.  Well done and thank you for your commitment to your own Professional Development and the support of our students. and their families.

VHAP - Victorian High Abilities Program:

Congratulations to the 40 students who have now completed VHAP during Semester 1 2026 for either English and/or Maths.  This program is run through the Department of Education's High Abilities Division and Virtual Schools Victoria with the aim to extend those students in Years 5 or 6 who have excelled during NAPLAN testing.  Students selected benefit from a one-hour online lesson each week for a term with a specialist teacher who challenges their thinking and extends their learning.  This program requires commitment to extra study as well as organisational skills and focus, as students navigate the online platform and work with classmates online from across the state.

We have another 20 students from our current Year 5-6 cohort selected to complete these programs in Term 3. I am sure many more of our exceptional students will be offered this opportunity over the coming terms.

Semester 1 participants VHAP certificates will be presented early in Term 3.

Each Day Counts at Cheltenham Primary School:

At Cheltenham Primary School, we know that regular attendance plays an important role in every child's success and wellbeing. Being at school each day helps students feel connected, build strong friendships, develop confidence, and make the most of the many learning opportunities available to them.

Looking at the attendance data for Semester 1, I can see that the following classes have the highest attendance percentage in their year level.  Congratulations go to:

Foundation A         Year 1C      Year 2B

Year 3/4A                Year 5C       Year 6A

We would like to remind families to please schedule holidays, medical appointments and dental visits outside of school hours to minimise time away from learning.

If your child is feeling anxious about friendships, schoolwork or coming to school, we encourage them to attend whenever they are well enough. Maintaining regular attendance can help children stay connected and supported, while extended absences can sometimes make worries feel more difficult to overcome.

If your child is experiencing challenges with school attendance, please reach out to their classroom teacher or contact me directly. We are committed to working in partnership with families and can provide support to help every child feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

If your student/s must miss school, please notify us as soon as possible by calling main reception or adding an attendance notification to Compass.
