Term 2 Reflection

The Foundation students have been marking each day of school and watching their tally grow as they count towards 100 days of learning. This past semester has been full of growth, discovery, and achievement as students have continued to develop their confidence and independence in the classroom.

Term 2 was filled with exciting incursions in connection to our STEAM unit on Healthy Bodies. We have had the pleasure of visits from Sandra the Dentist, who underscored the importance of brushing teeth and limiting the intake of sweet foods, and Jayne from JEM Yoga, who spoke about the importance of exercise and calming our minds. Healthy Harold also came by to talk about other habits that help our bodies, such as practising good hygiene and knowing the difference between healthy food and 'sometimes' food. Stuart the Paramedic also paid us a visit; it was such a treat for our Foundation students to get to see the inside of an ambulance and even pose for pictures in the driver's seat!

Term 2 was also filled with hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. One particular highlight was Kitchen class, which our Foundation students began participating in this term! It has been wonderful to see the students learning to move purposefully around the Kitchen, and trying out different kinds of food. Our Foundation students have also begun exploring coding through our Digital Technology sessions, which we started this term. They enjoy playing Osmo and figuring out the algorithm of moving Awbie from one place to another!

Literacy

During Term 2, the Foundation students explored two mentor texts, Rosie's Walk and Hattie and the Fox. The students practised making predictions about these texts and continued to build their comprehension skills by retelling and sequencing events in these stories and making connections between them.

In MSL, students learned about spelling patterns and phonics concepts such as digraphs, glued sounds, and consonant clusters. They have worked hard on identifying and saying these sounds clearly, spotting these patterns and sounds in their reading, and then applying this knowledge in their writing.

Maths

During Term 2, the Foundation students developed their understanding of number and measurement, and data concepts. The students engaged in counting, comparing, and representing numbers to 20, and built their understanding of teen numbers, recognising that they are made up of one 10 and some more ones. They were also introduced to ordinal numbers and used this language to identify the placement of objects in patterns. The students explored the measurement of length by comparing objects and describing them as 'shorter' and 'longer'.

In connection with our STEAM Unit, the Foundation students learned about collecting data using yes/no questions, and using this information to create simple graphs. They

asked their peers yes/no questions about different foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lunchbox preferences, and took this information into consideration when planning their lunchboxes.

STEAM

Term 2 was very busy as the students engaged in our unit on Healthy Bodies and explored actions that help keep themselves safe and healthy through various incursions. To apply what they learnt, the students worked in pairs to plan and create a healthy lunchbox. It was wonderful to see the students work through the process of identifying a suitable choice, compromising with a partner to select only one item for their lunchbox, and figuring out how to how to bring their ideas to life. The students were so excited to show off their hard work during the STEAM Expo, and it was amazing to watch the
