PE and Science

Term 2 Reflections

Physical Education

During PE this term our Junior School students enjoyed developing their fundamental movement skills. Foundation-2 students worked on developing their throwing, catching and kicking skills. They also participated in a range of fun tag style games to improve their fitness and dodging skills.

Middle and Senior School students participated in invasion style games and improved their skills associated with those sports; including Netball, Basketball, Hockey and AFL 9s. Students also participated in a beep test to measure their cardiovascular fitness and explore how beep test scores can impact performance when participating in invasion style games.

Science

This term in science our foundations looked at movement. We covered many terms such as push and pull and what kind of force they apply. Foundation also learnt how friction makes things slow down and stop.

Our year one's and two's looked at the movement of our sun, the earth and the moon and how they relate to each other, such as the day and night cycle. We focused on understanding the cosmic scale, how much bigger then us these celestial bodies are.

In Middle school we took a very hands on approach this term and attempted a variety of different structures. The focus was primarily on bridges and towers. Each week students were challenged to create structures that fit differing criteria with varying resources.

Senior school looked at light and how it was manipulated to create colour. We looked at how light travelled through air and water and how it changed our perception of it. We looked a the absence of light, creating shadows and silhouettes.
