Student Wellbeing

Wellbeing Program on offer at McCarthy run by our school counsellors - The Body Project:

The Body Project, our body image prevention program, is transforming how students see themselves. Run in small groups over 4 consecutive weeks, it builds lasting body confidence, resilience, and self-acceptance. We've started with Year 10 girls and hope to expand across year groups, and to boys, in future.

Attendance Matters:

Attendance Update: Celebrating Progress & Building Consistent Habits

At McCarthy, every day of learning counts toward student success. Some data to share on our attendance metrics so far this year:

  • Strong Daily Engagement (89% Attendance Rate): Across our entire student body, our collective attendance rate sits at 89%. This reflects the everyday effort of our students coming to class ready to learn, engage with peers, and participate in school life.
  • More Than Half On Track (52% Attendance Level): A good level of 52% of our students are reaching the high-performance benchmark of 90% or higher attendance. These students are building excellent habits that set them up for long-term academic and career success.

What does a 90% attendance level  look like?

A 90% attendance level means a student attends at least 90 out of every 100 school days.

In terms of weekly time off:

  • In a typical week (5 school days): Missing 0.5 days (half a day) every week adds up to a 90% attendance rate.
  • Over a fortnight (10 school days): Taking 1 full day off every two weeks puts a student right at that 90% mark.

Some tips for parents to improve their child’s attendance:

1.Establish a steady evening and morning routine.

2. Schedule appointments outside of school hours (if possible).

3. Keep track of the cumulative impact. Remember that missing just one day every two weeks adds up to missing four full weeks of school over the year. Tracking total days missed helps you catch attendance slip-ups before they become a larger habit.

4.Address anxiety or reluctance early. Contact your child’s Leader of Student Care through the front office to ask for our help

5. Build excitement around showing up to school

Have a restful holiday!
