Year 9 & 10 Newsletter Report

Year 9 & 10 Newsletter Report

This term, our Year 9 and 10 students have participated in a range of valuable programs and experiences designed to promote safety, wellbeing, and future readiness.

Safety in Middle Years

A key focus has been on helping students feel safe and supported within the school environment. Through classroom discussions and presentations centered on “Feeling Safe at LSC,” students explored what safety looks like in practice, how to seek support, and the importance of respectful relationships

These sessions encouraged open dialogue and empowered students to take an active role in maintaining a positive school culture.

Year 9 Focus

Year 9 students also took part in the *Road to Zero* program, which highlighted road safety awareness and the impact of decision-making as future drivers and passengers. This engaging experience helped students understand real-world consequences and reinforced the importance of responsible behaviour on and around roads.

In addition, Year 9 students attended an RMIT STEM Taster program, where they explored hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This experience provided insight into future study pathways and sparked curiosity in emerging fields.

To further support student wellbeing, a Cyberbullying Workshop was delivered to all Year 9 students. Students examined the impact of online behaviour, strategies for staying safe in digital spaces, and how to respond effectively to cyberbullying. The workshop reinforced the importance of empathy, responsibility, and digital citizenship.

Year 10 Focus

As part of our Year 10 program, students are actively preparing for their upcoming Work Experience placements. This important opportunity allows students to explore potential career pathways, develop workplace skills, and gain insight into employer expectations.

In the lead-up to placements, students have been guided through the planning process, including identifying areas of interest, researching suitable industries, and contacting potential employers. Emphasis has been placed on professionalism, with students learning how to write emails, prepare resumes, and communicate effectively with workplaces.

Students have also participated in sessions focused on workplace health and safety, understanding their rights and responsibilities, and developing appropriate workplace behaviours. These sessions ensure students feel confident and prepared to enter a professional environment.

The Work Experience program is a valuable step in helping students make informed decisions about their future pathways, while building independence and real-world skills that will support them beyond school.

Overall, these initiatives have supported our students in developing awareness, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility—both within the school community and beyond.
