Dear Families,

It has been a wonderful, action-packed fortnight here at Le Page Primary School! Our classrooms are buzzing with learning, and it has been fantastic to see our students engaging so enthusiastically with both their academic studies and our vibrant school community initiatives. As we look at the exciting events happening next week, I want to thank all our families for your ongoing support in making our school such a positive place to learn and grow.

New Community Mural Coming to Le Page!

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that a talented local artist has been awarded a Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) community grant to paint a magnificent, large-scale mural right here at our school. This mural will be painted on the large wall at the end of the main building facing Le Page Park, making it beautifully visible to passing traffic on Argus Street. Involving our students is a core part of this project, and the artist will be working directly with them to help design the artwork. We cannot wait to see our students' creativity come to life in a permanent landmark. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in Term 1, 2027.

Congratulations to our Girls Tee Ball team, who are now Regional Champions! 

 The girls have done an amazing job and proudly brought home the pennant.

We wish the team the very best of luck as they head into the next and final stage – the State Championships Finals, to be held on Wednesday 16 September.

Well done, girls – we are so proud of you!

Year 5/6 Market Stall Day (Monday 24 August)

This coming Monday, our senior students are hosting their massive Market Stall Day! There will be plenty of sweet treats and cool toys available for students to purchase. Please remember to send your child with a reusable shopping bag to carry all their purchases and to keep them organised!

2026 Book Week Parade (Friday 28 August)

Next Friday at 9:15 am, we welcome all families to join us for The Symphony of Stories Book Week Parade on the basketball courts (or inside the Hall if it rains). Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book characters for a morning of imagination and fun.

Rescheduled House Athletics Carnival (Monday 31 August)

Due to the recent wild and wet weather, our Athletics Carnival has a new date. Students are invited to proudly wear their House Colours on Monday 31 August as they compete and have fun.

Every Minute Counts: Arriving on Time for Literacy

We have noticed a persistent number of students regularly arriving at school after 9:30 am. When a student arrives late, they miss out on critical morning English lessons, which set up their learning for the entire day. This morning window is especially vital in our junior year levels, where students engage in explicit, foundational phonics instruction. Missing these lessons makes it incredibly difficult for children to catch up on essential reading and writing building blocks. Our school gates open early, and classrooms begin structured learning precisely at 9:00 am. Please support your child's education by ensuring they arrive on time and are ready to learn.

Living the 7 Habits: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

As a Leader in Me school, we frequently talk about how we can build deep, meaningful connections within our community. One of the most powerful tools we have for this is Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. This habit sounds simple, but it is incredibly challenging to practice. It asks us to hit the pause button, put our own assumptions aside, and listen with the genuine intent to see the world from another person's perspective before trying to make our own point heard. To be clear, I am still very much learning how to do this myself. Whether I am acting as a principal, a colleague, or a parent, it takes conscious effort to truly listen first rather than jumping ahead to find a solution or a response. It is a lifelong practice for all of us, staff, parents, and students alike. When we collectively commit to leaning into this habit, we open the door to deeper empathy, fewer misunderstandings, and much stronger partnerships for our children.
