Term 3 Week 6 2026 - Friday 21st August
🌟 What We Have Been Up To
It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 3! We have had a busy and exciting few weeks of learning and had a fantastic time on our excursion, where students were able to make connections to our Inquiry learning about the past and present.
In Reading and Writing, students have been exploring a variety of poetry styles, including rhyming, imagery and descriptive poems. They have been identifying the features of each and using these ideas to create their own poems, while expanding their vocabulary and experimenting with descriptive language. In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of skip counting, patterns and rules by identifying, continuing and creating patterns and explaining the rules they notice using mathematical language. In Inquiry, we have been learning about Past and Present, exploring how people, places and daily life have changed over time and comparing similarities and differences between the past and present.

Phonics
These are what we will be focussing on each week in our phonics lessons.

Reading & Writing
Students will be beginning a text analysis unit using Jeannie Baker’s picture book Window. We will explore how the author and illustrator communicate ideas through words and images, looking closely at details in the illustrations, changes over time and the messages within the text. Students will practise sharing their ideas, making observations and supporting their thinking with evidence from the book.
Mathematics
Students will be exploring sharing and equal groups. They will use hands-on materials and drawings to practise sharing collections fairly, making equal groups and explaining their mathematical thinking. These activities will help build an early understanding of division and the relationship between groups and quantities.
Inquiry
Students will begin our Past and Present unit, exploring how people, places and daily life have changed over time. They will investigate similarities and differences between the past and present and develop an understanding of how communities evolve.
