Visual Arts

In Visual Arts, students have continued to explore the Element of Art – Form, learning how artists create three-dimensional artworks using a variety of materials and techniques.

Students have been working incredibly hard to bring their sculptures to life. They have been carefully double-coating their artworks with paint to achieve strong, vibrant colours and adding extra decorative details to make their creations look as realistic, colourful and creative as possible. It has been wonderful to see the care, patience and attention to detail students are putting into their work.

Foundation

Foundation students have been busy painting and decorating their papier-mâché donuts. They have added colourful icing, toppings and other decorative details to make their delicious-looking creations as realistic as possible. Students have also created their special artwork for the Crazy Camel Fundraising Program.

Year 1/2

Year 1/2 students have been carefully painting their air-dried clay wall-hanging letter plaques, adding colour to highlight their textures, patterns and decorative details. They have also been painting and decorating their papier-mâché ice cream cones, adding extra details and toppings to make their ice creams look bright, fun and realistic.

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 students have been bringing their wonderful, air-dried clay exotic birds to life with bright colours and decorative details. They have also painted and decorated their papier-mâché icy poles/paddle pops, using multiple coats of paint and adding extra features to create realistic and imaginative designs.

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 students have been painting their fantastic, air-dried clay bobble-head characters, carefully considering colour and detail to give each character its own personality. They have also painted and decorated their Modroc cake sculptures. With layers of paint, icing, decorations and creative toppings, some of these cakes look good enough to eat!

Students have almost finished creating their special Crazy Camel Fundraising artwork.

Every student has had the opportunity to plan, design and create their own unique artwork during Visual Arts lessons. Once completed, families will be able to purchase a variety of personalised keepsakes featuring their child's artwork.

These beautiful keepsakes make thoughtful gifts and lasting memories that can be treasured for years to come.

PE 

Again the weather was not so kind to us last week, so we were stuck inside for our lessons.

Without the use of the hall, the year 1s – 4s had a health lesson. During this lesson, we spoke about eating healthy and good food choices. It was a good discussion about what foods are important for our bodies and minds so that we are healthy and also so we can concentrate and focus at school. The year 56’s and the preps did have access to the hall, so they did one last lesson of tabloid sports.

This week with Athletics planned for Wednesday, students were able to participate and learn the key skills of shot put and discus as well as doing some relays using the batons. Shot Put and Discus are quite unique and specific with their skills so it was important for students to know the key elements and then have an opportunity to practise them.

The shot put needs to be pushed from the neck region, rather than thrown, which is quite challenging for students to grasp at first. The discus is thrown with a rounded arm and not like a frisbee, again which was challenging for students to understand.

However, after explaining these ideas and demonstrating them to the students, they were able to pick up the skills pretty quickly.

All students also had a turn at using the batons for relay races and they loved the competition and working with their team to win their races.

It was great to see their enthusiasm and I can’t wait for our house athletics day, which has been moved to Monday 31st August.

Interschool Sports – Girls Teeball (Regional Finals)

On Tuesday 18th August, 13 girls travelled down the highway in some of the parents' cars to compete in the Southern Regional finals.

We entered the finals as a bonus as we finished second in our division, but some divisions didn’t send a school along, so we took their place. Therefore we felt it was going to be a real challenge, but we went with the idea of having a great, fun day and doing our best.

The weather was amazing and we were one of the first teams to arrive.

We played 3 pool rounds and won all three games comfortably and went into the grand final.

The girls were super excited and eager to play, and I was hesitant about our chances of winning, but they girls played almost their perfect game and we had a comfortable win, 14 runs to 1.

An amazing effort by the girls. The reason for their success was they listened intently to my instructions and carried them out brilliantly. Their batting was great and the fielding was even better. Special mention to Holly and Eshie for their amazing fielding throughout the day. All the girls batted beautifully, but Holly and Zoe hit some massive balls to help get us many runs.

Congratulations and well done to all the girls who are now regional champions and now go through to the next and final stage, the State finals which will be held on Wednesday 16th Sept.

I would just like to thank Renate, James, Garry and Anthony for helping drive the girls down, the other parents and families for coming along and supporting the team and Matilda for her help with scoring and managing the girls.

I can’t wait for the STATE final in a couple of weeks time.

Music 

Preps:

Over the last 2 weeks, the Preps have enjoyed learning about different genres of music, including Classical, Rock n’ Roll, Jazz, Pop and many more. One of the highlights involved the students experimenting with different vocal sounds in Jazz to create their own scatting patterns. It was wonderful to see students showing bravery and trying something new. Over the next two weeks, students will be revisiting their learning about percussion by developing their understanding of how to play the Djembe. Prep students will also be learning the lyrics and melody for the school song, which a number of students have asked to learn about.

Year 1 & 2

The Year 1 students have done a fantastic job creating their own characters, story structure for their play and doing a read-through of the scripts that they created. Over the next 4 weeks, students will begin a unit of learning about composition which will focus on song structure and conventions and enable students to create their own songs using digital technologies such as GarageBand. 

Year 3 & 4

Students in year 3 and 4 have done an amazing job developing their knowledge about film making and are currently in the process of creating their own short films based on their own storyboards. Over the next few weeks, students will film their scenes and use iMovie to edit their scenes. Beginning in week 8, students will shift their focus from narrative filmmaking to how film makers use different techniques to make advertising compelling and products more enticing. This part of the unit will give students an opportunity to choose a product to advertise and then create a short advertisement using all the skills they have developed over the term. 

Year 5 & 6

Year 5 and 6 students have done a fantastic job over the last Term and a half developing their filmmaking skills and have now finished editing their commercials. I am aiming to hold an afternoon viewing for students as well as families to view these commercials in week 10 of Term 3, with an official date to be confirmed by the end of the week. Year 5 and 6 students will now begin their learning about song composition and song writing conventions.

📚 Book Week is Almost Here! 🎉

We are getting excited for Children’s Book Week 2026 – Symphony of Stories! Next week will be filled with books, creativity and plenty of fun as we celebrate our love of reading across the school.

✏️ An Amazing Workshop with Andy Griffiths!

Our Year 2-6 students recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in an author workshop with Andy Griffiths!

Andy spoke to our students about the power of books, using our creative minds and his new book, You & Me and the Gigantic Knucklehead. He shared some of the amazing things that reading can do for us, including:

• 🧠 Boosting brain power
• 😌 Reducing stress
• 🎯 Improving focus
• 📖 Enhancing vocabulary
• ❤️ Increasing empathy

Andy also shared that one of his favourite books is The Magic Faraway Tree!

Following the workshop, many of our students put their creativity to work by designing their very own front cover for Andy’s new book. Their fantastic designs have been submitted for the chance to win five copies of the new book for our school!

We loved seeing the imagination and creativity in all of the students’ designs – well done to everyone who participated!

🌟 Book Week - Next Week!

The excitement continues with Book Week next week! We have some fun activities planned throughout the week and can’t wait to share what our students get up to.

The week will finish with our Book Week Parade on Friday 28 August at 9:15am. Students are encouraged to come dressed as a favourite book character and join in the celebration.

Our Kinder children, parents and families are warmly invited to come along and watch the parade on the basketball court.
